Yes, you’re reading this correctly. The 35-year-old former major-league outfielder has made the transition to pitching in Australia and finally made his first appearance on the mound. He issued a pair of walks, but managed to induce an inning-ending twin-killing to keep the Brisbane Bandits off the scoreboard in the ninth inning. He last appeared in the major leagues with the Orioles back in 2015.

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said Saturday that Lourdes Gurriel will take ground balls at third base during the spring.

Montoyo cautioned that it was more of an emergency thing, that you'll never know when those reps will come in handy. He also said that Gurriel's primary focus in the infield -- and where he's most likely to see significant action -- will be at first base. With so many weapons on offense this season, having someone like Gurriel who can move around the diamond should be extremely beneficial for the Jays. It also wouldn't hurt his fantasy appeal to add first base eligibility.

Red Sox pitching coach Dave Bush was noticeably vague when asked about a potential timeline on the return of Chris Sale, telling reporters Saturday "sometime during the season".

To be fair, Bush did note that they should have more clarity and a real estimate later in the spring. For now, Sale is on a throwing program as he works his way back from last March's Tommy John surgery. The early estimates had Sale sidelined until late May or early June -- and there haven't been any setbacks (at least announced publicly) that would drastically change that estimate. Bush also noted on Saturday that the team has yet to decide whether they'll utilize a five-man or six-man rotation heading into the 2021 campaign.

Luis Severino (elbow) is slated to throw off of a mound for the first time within the next two weeks.

Severino has already been throwing in his recovery from Tommy John surgery -- stretching out to a distance of 120 feet this week -- but has only thrown fastballs to this point. He's currently a bit ahead of schedule in regards to the early estimate of his return in late June or early July, though he'll need to continue to avoid setbacks along the way.

Rodriguez will make his Grapefruit League debut at some point next week. There's room for profit at his current average draft position, which sits outside the top 200 players overall in drafts in February.

The veteran southpaw admitted that it took 10-11 weeks for the stress reaction in his pitching elbow to heal, and a full 14 weeks before he felt completely healthy. There's not a ton of upside here, but there's a chance he could log meaningful innings in the O's rotation in 2021.

Widely considered to be the top prospect in all of baseball, the 19-year-old is in big league camp as a non-roster invitee this spring. He slashed a robust .327/.398/.487 with nine homers, 53 RBI and 18 stolen bases across 114 games between Class-A Bowling Green and High-A Charlotte during the 2019 season. Franco then spent the 2020 campaign at the Rays' alternate training site.

Blake Snell will make his highly-anticipated Padres debut in the fourth game of Spring Training.

The 28-year-old former American League Cy Young Award winner came to the Padres in a December blockbuster deal that sent an intriguing package of prospects to the Rays. He's one of three major additions that the Padres made to their rotation over the winter -- also adding Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove -- as they attempt to overthrow the Dodgers in the National League West. Snell remains a borderline SP1 in fantasy drafts as he has been the 15th starting pitcher off the board on average in drafts during February.

Angels left-hander Packy Naughton was diagnosed with a Grade 1 UCL strain.

The 24-year-old southpaw came to the Angels in the deal that sent Brian Goodwin to the Reds during the 2020 season. Naughton was expected to begin the season in the rotation at Triple-A Salt Lake, though it's unclear now when he'll be ready to begin his season -- or if Tommy John surgery could be in the cards. He posted a 3.32 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 131/35 K/BB ratio over 157 innings between High-A Daytona and Double-A Chattanooga when we last saw him in 2019.

The reigning American League MVP was away from the club for several days after testing positive for COVID-19 during the intake process. Abreu was said to be "completely asymptomatic" and that the presence of antibodies in additional testing would indicate that he had contracted the virus at some point this winter. He should once again be a force in the middle of the White Sox lineup in 2020 and may be the favorite to lead the American League in RBI for the third consecutive season.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Danny Santana will hold a showcase for interested teams on Thursday in Miami.

Santana has already begun holding individual workouts, but will give everyone a chance to see what he can do on Thursday. He had a miserable 2020 season -- slashing a putrid .145/.238/.273 with one homer, seven RBI and two stolen bases in 63 plate appearances before undergoing UCL surgery. He's now fully healthy and ready to show interested clubs that he would be ready to play on Opening Day. Remember, he's just a year removed from hitting .283/.324/.534 with 28 homers, 81 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 130 games for the Rangers. Pay close attention to where he winds up and whether or not there's a chance to secure regular playing time.
