Rory McIlroy Headshot

McIlroy will tee it up this week at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, marking his first competitive event since early October.

McIlroy took three months off from competitive golf to try to let his body heel from an injury riddled season, mainly struggling with a rib injury. He will play the first two rounds alongside World No. 1 Dustin Johnson and Race to Dubai Champion, Tommy Fleetwood. While McIlroy has never won this event, he has played extremely well finishing fifth or better in seven of his nine appearances, including four runner-ups.

Brett Rumford Headshot

Rumford withdrew from this week's Abu Dhabi HSBC Chamiponship due to a wrist injury, according to Martin Dempster of The Scotsman.

Rumford played in last week's BMW SA Open and placed 74th, but his injury will prevent him from taking the course this week. He did not play again until March after participating in this event last year, so it remains to be seen when he will be ready to take the course again.

Marc Leishman Headshot

Leishman closed with a two-under 68 during Sunday's final round at the Sony Open to finish seven-under and tied for 47th.

Leishman, who's up to a career-best 12th in the Official World Golf Ranking, had finished T7 or better in three of his previous four starts heading into the week at Waialae Country Club. The T47 result was his worst finish since a missed cut at the Northern Trust, while he currently stands at No. 15 in the FedExCup standings. Leishman won't be in the field at this week's CareerBuilder Challenge.

Tony Finau Headshot

Finau fired a three-under 67 on Sunday at the Sony Open to finish nine-under and tied for 32nd.

Finau's week in Honolulu was highlighted by a hole-in-one at the par-three 17th hole during his third round, but spotty wedge play around the greens kept him from a top-25 finish. Finau hasn't missed a single cut since the PLAYERS Championship back in May of 2017, while he's currently up to 10th in the FedExCup standings. He could make his next start at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January, where he's posted three top-25s in three career appearances.
Jan 16 12:25 pm (EST)
Charles Howell Headshot

Howell fired a three-under 67 on Sunday at the Sony Open to finish nine-under and tied for 32nd.

Howell's final round included four birdies to just one bogey as he jumped eight spots up the leaderboard to finish T32. It was a bit of a disappointing result for the 38-year-old, who had notched four top-10s in his last six starts at the event. Howell currently ranks 28th in the FedExCup standings through six appearances, and he'll be in the field at this week's CareerBuilder Challenge as well.

Scott Piercy Headshot

Piercy carded a one-under 69 on Sunday at the Sony Open to finish 10-under and tied for 25th.

Piercy tied for fourth among the field in terms of birdies made throughout the week with 22 in four rounds, but he also averaged three bogeys per round. He struggled with the putter at Waialae Country Club, but ranked third in SG: Tee-to-Green and ninth in SG: Approach. Piercy has made the cut in all four of his stats this season as he heads to the upcoming CareerBuilder Challenge.
Jan 16 12:14 pm (EST)
Kevin Kisner Headshot

Kisner fired a three-under 67 on Sunday at the Sony Open to finish 10-under and tied for 25th.

Kisner posted his fifth consecutive top-25 finish, extending a streak that dates back to the TOUR Championship in late September. The 33-year-old remained hot with his putter this week at Waialae Country Club, finishing 10th among the field in SG: Putting. He's up to sixth on Tour in SG: Putting and seventh in putting from inside 10 feet this season. He'll look for continued success with the flat stick at this week's CareerBuilder Challenge, where he finished 25th in 2017.
Jan 16 3:33 am (EST)
Chez Reavie Headshot

Reavie closed with a three-under 67 on Sunday at the Sony Open to finish 11-under and tied for 18th.

Reavie played his last two rounds at Waialae Country Club in a combined eight-under-par to notch his seventh consecutive top-25 result. The 36-year-old's ball striking was on point as he led the field in SG: Approach and SG: Tee-to-Green, but he ranked a dismal 76th in terms of SG: Putting. He'll be in the field again this week at the CareerBuilder Challenge, where he's finished top-20 in each of the past two seasons.
Jan 16 3:02 am (EST)
Jordan Spieth Headshot

Spieth carded a four-under 66 during Sunday's final round at the Sony Open to finish 11-under and T18.

Spieth played his final two rounds in a combined eight-under-par to jump inside the top-20, but his streak of seven consecutive top-10s finally came to an end. The second-ranked player was even in danger of missing the cut early on, mostly due to a quadruple bogey on the par-four eighth hole during his first round. Spieth paced the field in GIR percentage with 61 of 72 greens hit in regulation, while he also ranked fifth in driving distance and sixth in SG: Off-the-Tee. The Official World Golf Ranking's No. 2 player will likely tee it up next at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in early February, where he owns a pair of top-10s in two tries at the event.
Jan 16 2:56 am (EST)
Jason Dufner Headshot

Dufner fired a four-under 66 on Sunday at the Sony Open to finish 11-under and tied for 18th.

Dufner got off to a rough start Sunday as he played his first seven holes in two-over-par, but he used six birdies in his last 11 holes to climb inside the top-20. He could've finished even higher if it weren't for a triple bogey on the par-four sixth during his third round. The 40-year-old ranks 13th on Tour in SG: Putting through eight measured rounds this season, while he hasn't missed a cut since the 2017 U.S. Open. Dufner will look to make improvements with his short game around the greens at this week's CareerBuilder Challenge, an event he won in 2016.
