Hudson's catch total co-led the Buccaneers on the night, while his receiving yardage checked in second only to that of Chris Godwin's. The second-year tight end has excelled throughout the preseason, and his chances of securing a spot at final cutdowns may have gone up significantly if the calf injury suffered by fellow reserve tight end Anthony Auclair in Friday's contest proves to be a long-term issue. Hudson is likely headed for extended action in next Thursday's preseason finale against the Cowboys, giving him one more opportunity to make his case.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports teams are "already reaching out" to initiate Matthew Stafford trade talks.

A trade can't technically be completed until the start of the new league year in March, but it's not uncommon for big-ticket deals to be agreed upon well in advance of free agency. With Deshaun Watson and a host of other starters potentially on the move, it is going to be an unusually explosive quarterback market this winter. So far, the only team has Stafford has been indirectly connected to is the 49ers, who are said to be "monitoring" the situation. 12 days shy of his 33rd birthday, Stafford will have a robust market.

A former CFL standout, Begelton generated some offseason hype but failed to make an early season impact before being stashed on the taxi squad. Going on 28, Begelton will be a long shot to crack the 2021 53-man roster.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports 49ers QB Nick Mullens (elbow) did not require Tommy John UCL replacement surgery.

Mullens went under the knife in late December. Per Garafolo, the damage was "not as extensive as initially feared." He will apparently be 100 percent healthy for training camp. Going on 26, Mullens will be a restricted free agent this spring. The parlor game of "is Nick Mullens better than Jimmy Garoppolo?" has largely been answered as "no," but Mullens is a decent backup. Emphasis on decent. The 49ers could decide to remake their entire quarterback room this year.

Speaking Tuesday, Packers team president Mark Murphy said Aaron Rodgers would be back with the team in 2021.

“I’ll say this: There’s no way in heck that Aaron is not going to be on the Packers," Murphy said, unequivocally. "I mean, he is going to be the MVP of the league, might have had his best year ever. He’s our unquestioned leader and, you know, we’re not idiots.” While more or less saying he will be back, Rodgers has refused to come right out and say it. Murphy, for his part, doesn't have the power of a typical team owner, but he is correct that GM Brian Gutekunst and coach Matt LaFleur would be idiots to move on from Rodgers following his 2020. This controversy is dying just as quickly as it began.

Rams LT Andrew Whitworth plans to continue playing in 2021.

Speaking Tuesday, GM Les Snead said the Rams would like to keep Whitworth, but that "there are variables." Now 39, Whitworth was limited to nine games by a knee injury in 2020, while the Rams are currently bottom five in cap space. Whitworth is due an extremely affordable $7 million in 2021 and remained one of the league's best blockers when healthy this season. The sides will probably be able to work this out.

Rams signed QB Devlin Hodges to a reserve/future contract.

Known as "Duck," Hodges appeared in eight games, starting six, for the Steelers in 2019, going 3-3 on the back of the Pittsburgh defense. Hodges completed 62.5% of his passes at 6.6 yards per attempt with a 5:8 TD:INT mark. He averaged 132.9 passing yards per game and absorbed 15 sacks. Hodges won't be the one pushing Jared Goff in camp next summer. The Rams also signed DB Jake Gervase to a reserve/future deal.

The Athletic's Katherine Terrell expects the Saints to "move on" from Jared Cook this offseason.

This is Terrell's informed speculation, and not a sourced "report." Cook has an $8.04 million roster bonus due on the second day of the new league year, making the move something of a no-brainer for the cap-strapped Saints. Less involved in the offense this season, especially as the year wore on, Cook's 37 receptions were his second fewest since 2010. This, for a team that struggled for healthy pass-catching options. Cutting Cook would create $9.1 million in space for a team that is well north of $100 million over the cap. Cook turns 34 in April.

Speaking Tuesday, Rams GM Les Snead declined to endorse Jared Goff as the team's 2021 starter.

ESPN's Lindsey Thiry reports Snead "declined to provide a yes/no answer" on Goff's future before "referencing Aaron Rodgers' recent quote about the future being a beautiful mystery." He then said "anything can be done" while nevertheless acknowledging it would be difficult to move on from Goff's albatross contract. Snead joins coach Sean McVay in going out of his way not to endorse his starting quarterback. The Rams have realized what everyone else has, that their offense is hard capped under the No. 1 overall pick of the 2016 draft. The problem is the salary cap, which would be left in smoldering ruins by any potential Goff move. Unless some other team is willing to pay Goff $25.6 million in 2021, there is probably no way the Rams can get out from underneath his deal this offseason, but perhaps they will add legitimate competition and roll with the highest-paid backup in the history of professional sports. We have a long way to go in this journey.

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show Tuesday, Aaron Rodgers said there are "not many absolutes," but that he would likely be back with the Packers in 2021.

"I don’t think that there’s any reason why I wouldn’t be back, but there’s not many absolutes in this business," was Rodgers' exact quote. "Ultimately my future is not necessarily in my control. That kind of hit me in the moment," Rodgers said of his provocative comments following Sunday's loss. It's not exactly the unequivocal guarantee Packers fans were probably looking for, but it ultimately seems like Sunday will end up much ado about nothing. Trading the MVP would create just $5.5 million in cap space while leaving behind $31.6 million in dead money. Seeing as he was the No. 3 quarterback in 2020, it is doubtful the Packers believe Jordan Love is ready to take over.

New Chargers coach Brandon Staley has pledged to build his offense around what Justin Herbert does well.

Which was basically everything as a rookie. "We want to uniquely shape our offense around Justin Herbert because he is unlike any other quarterback," Staley gushed. "When you study the great quarterbacks in the history of the game they've had systems that have been built for them." This seemingly obvious point is still lost on so many coaches. Tailor your offense to what your players, especially your quarterback, do well. Despite being a defensive-minded head coach, Staley is a former quarterback, while he just spent a year learning under offensive maestro Sean McVay. Best laid plans have a way of going awry in the NFL, but from the outside, Staley seems to be a home run hire.

Martavis Bryant signed with the CFL's Toronto Argonauts.

Bryant, 29, who is suspended from the NFL indefinitely after a series of drug policy violations, hasn't played pro football since 2018, when he had 19 receptions for 266 yards in 12 games for the Raiders. He applied for reinstatement in 2019 but the NFL has not granted his request. A fourth-round selection by the Steelers in 2014, Bryant flashed as a dominant wideout with otherworldly after-the-catch ability in Pittsburgh. In 2015, he caught 50 passes for 765 yards and six touchdowns in 11 games.
