Although the Red Wings had a terrible 17-49-5 record last season, Marc Staal doesn't think they were as bad as that implies.
“I don’t think you’re ever too far from winning,” said Staal. “I wasn’t there (Detroit) last year, obviously, so I can’t speak on what was going on with the team, but everytime we played them, they were a very detailed team that wasn’t easy to beat by any means. They just need to get over the hump where success in winning games becomes a regularity." The Red Wings acquired Staal from the Rangers over the offseason and he'll help provide a veteran presence and be a cornerstone of their blueline. The Red Wings haven't made a big splash over the offseason, but they did sign some complimentary pieces, including Vladislav Namestnikov, Bobby Ryan, Troy Stecher, and Jon Merrill. It will be interesting to see how they all mesh with the Red Wings young core as they attempt to take a step forward next season. Yesterday 10:20 am (EST)
