The 27-year-old third baseman spent the first seven seasons of his minor league career in the Nationals organization -- most recently hitting .269/.322/.513 with 18 homers and 66 RBI across three levels in 2019. He absolutely raked for the Fargo-Moorhead Hawks in the independent American Association in 2020, slashing .335/.407/.633 with 17 homers and 45 RBI in 58 games. He'll add corner infield depth for the Tigers.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Nationals have emerged as a possibility to sign free agent left-hander Brad Hand.

The Nationals don't have an experienced closer on their roster -- with Tanner Rainey currently the most likely candidate to fill that role -- so adding an accomplished veteran with ninth-inning experience seems like it would be a wise investment. With so many other teams believed to be in the mix though, it's unclear if the Nationals will be willing to match the highest offer. The Angels, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Astros, White Sox and Mets have all been linked to Hand at some point this offseason. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported Saturday that the southpaw could make his final decision before the end of the weekend.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that there are indications that right-hander Jameson Taillon will be the next Pirates player to be traded -- and that it may happen in the next day or two.

The Pirates have already dealt Joe Musgrove and Josh Bell this offseason, so it wouldn't be a major surprise to see them shed Taillon as well as they attempt to perpetually rebuild. The 28-year-old righty missed the entire 2020 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but is expected to be healthy and ready to go for the start of the 2021 campaign. He owns a 3.67 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 419/117 K/BB ratio over 466 innings in his big-league career. The Yankees are one team known to have interest in acquiring Taillon.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Red Sox have reached an agreement on a one-year, $10 million contract with free agent right-hander Garrett Richards.

The deal is pending a physical. The two sides had talked earlier in the offseason, but momentum toward an agreement really started building on Friday. Richards adds another quality arm to a Red Sox rotation that lacked depth. The 32-year-old registered a 4.03 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 46/17 K/BB ratio over 51 1/3 innings for the Padres during the shortened 2020 season. His signing could bump Tanner Houck from the Opening Day rotation.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that free agent left-hander Brad Hand is nearing a decision and expected to sign soon.

Feinsand notes that Hand could make a decision before the end of the weekend. While his velocity and some of the underlying metrics hinted at trouble in 2019, Hand posted a brilliant 2.05 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 29/4 K/BB ratio while recording a league-high 16 saves in 22 innings for the Indians. The Angels, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Astros, White Sox and Mets have all expressed interest at some point this offseason. Hand's fantasy value for the 2021 season will be tied to where he lands and whether or not he winds up in the closer's role.

Reds acquired LHP Cionel Perez from the Astros for C Luke Berryhill.

The 24-year-old southpaw appeared in seven games out of the Astros bullpen during the truncated 2020 season, registering a 2.84 ERA, 8/6 K/BB ratio and troublesome 2.05 WHIP across 6 1/3 innings. He should have a chance to compete for a spot in the Reds' Opening Day bullpen in 2021.

Blue Jays signed OF George Springer to a six-year, $150 million contract.

The deal was agreed to last week, but became official on Saturday after Springer passed his physical. Springer will receive a $10 million signing bonus, then $22 million in 2021, $28 million in 2022 and $22.5 million each season from 2023-2025. The deal also includes a partial no-trade clause (eight teams). The 31-year-old outfielder hit .265/.359/.540 with 14 homers, 32 RBI and one stolen base in 51 games with the Astros in 2020. He should hit atop a strong Blue Jays' lineup where he'll deliver ample counting stats. Springer currently sits just outside the top 50 players overall on average in fantasy drafts during the month of January.
