What a sweat last night was huh? We had three plays in our Underdog Fantasy pick'em feature with JJ Bleday and Shota Imanaga cashing early we eagerly awaited the late matchup of Yoshinobu Yamamoto so we could cash our tickets.

It got off to a rocky start with a leadoff homer to Jazz Chisholm and a low amount of strikeouts through the first few innings. When it came to the 7th inning it looked like we were going to get hooked with him sitting on a projection of 39.5 fantasy points but only having 39 fantasy points if you accounted for him getting the win. We needed the Dodgers to send him out for the 8th inning and they did just that.

With a perfect 3-for-3 night under our belt and a fantastic 7-2-1 record in May we turn our attention to todays matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays for our two pick  play!

MLB Underdog Fantasy Picks Today: Wednesday, May 8

Chris Bassitt, Toronto Blue Jays

  • Lower than 28.5 Fantasy Points

If you've paid attention to anything I've said about Chris Bassitt this season then it should come as no surprise that I am going to take the lower side of his fantasy points projection here today against the Phillies lineup that is loaded with left-handed bats.

If you are new to the program, let me throw some stats at you. Against left-handed hitters this season, Bassitt is allowing a .472 wOBA, .631 slugging percentage and a .354 batting average. He's has a 27.8% HR/FB rate against lefties while allowing 3.1 HR/9.

These aren't new struggles either, lefties have hit Bassitt hard for a few years now and today he faces Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Bryston Stott and Brandon Marsh. The former two are the ones Bassitt should worry about but the latter two are also having themselves a solid start to their individual seasons as well.

I just don't see how Bassitt lasts long enough in this game to reach his fantasy projection.

Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies

  • More than 1.5 Total Bases

The books aren't fools here either. If you check out Harper's projections on Underdog, you will see that the odds on most of them are not great and while I would normally play his Hits+Runs+RBI projection, I'm settling for the Total Bases instead for the better payout.

Harper has finished with more than 1.5 Total bases in three straight games, thanks to homering in all three contests. He also has multi-hits in each of the last two games.

This matchup is just in the wheelhouse for Harper here and I'd be willing to even bet on him hitting a homer for the fourth straight day.
