The Cup series ventures to the Lone Star state this weekend following the Xfinity and Truck series race on Saturday with a 500-mile race of their own around the 1.5-mile quad-oval track. Texas has long been known for high speeds among the intermediate tracks and that mainly comes from the high banking in the second set of corners as it’s tilted at 24 degrees compared to 20 degrees in the first set of corners. The two different corners could cause problems for drivers if their cars aren’t set up properly from the drop as typically practice is when they would dial those in, however they did just race at a track with two different sets of corners last weekend in Kentucky.

There are 334 laps in this race broken up into three stages of 105-105-124 which means laps led will be prevalent doing the race and for once on FanDuel they will actually matter and act as a way to separate the points across lineups with 33.4 available in this one and 250.5 dominator points available on DK between laps led and fastest laps. In terms of moving up through the field there have been an average of six drivers a race (for the early race at Texas) over the last five years to move up double-digit spots a race. Last year in this same package only four drivers accomplished that feat while 14 drivers moved up at least five spots. So PD is possible here and remains the best bet for points to be accrued.

Average Points By Starting Spot

These charts show the average points scored by that starting spot over the last five of this same race regardless of driver in that starting spot. It’s not a hard and fast rule but a guide in seeing strategy at this particular track.
