Texas Motor Speedway sits 1,365 miles from the intersection of Pennsylvania Ave. and Constitution Ave. in Washington, D.C. where my favorite baseball team is celebrating their World Series title as I write this playbook. Shifting attention back to Fort Worth, Texas where the Cup series, in my other favorite sport, gets ready to race at Texas Motor Speedway for the second time this season and first time since late-March.
This 1.5-mile track was repaved back in 2017 and was reconfigured as well to give the two sets of corners different banking. The first set of corners is now banked at 20 degrees and the second set is tilted at 24 degrees which makes it a challenging track to get the balance correct for the length of a race. This is also one of the fastest tracks on the Cup schedule because of the smoothness and lack of tire wear in the racing surface. Texas is also an interesting track from a starting spot for winners perspective as shown in the Track Breakdown earlier this week as only three of 37 winners have come from the pole position while eight have come from starting third.
