There are a few games with weather concerns today, namely LAA/TOR and MIA/NYM and so it’s likely best to stay away from those games for builds including value plays. It’s a big ten-game slate this afternoon and so that means there are plenty of different ways to construct a lineup but no matter how you do it, value plays will be a key part of those builds for cash or GPP’s. As usual we’ll look at some DraftKings and FanDuel specific values and then ones who are good on both sites for today.
DraftKings
Matt Shoemaker , SP MIN - Shoemaker was very solid in his first start of the year as he went six innings with five K’s while allowing just three hits against the Tigers. Now he gets the Mariners on Sunday, a team that’s been striking out 27.8-percent against RHP’s this year and has posted a below average wRC+ mark at 98. If you feel a tad more contrarian, Chris Flexen is an option on the other side of the matchup as well as the Twins have cooled off this past week and have been striking out over 27-percent of the time as well.
D.J. Stewart, OF BAL - Stewart is $2,400 on DK and so why not take a shot at a potential five-hole hitter in Camden Yards for that price? Stewart has only faced Pivetta three times in his career but last year six of the seven home runs he hit came off of RHP’s and Pivetta has had problems in the past keeping the ball in the park as he gave up ten homers to LHH’s in 45.1 innings in 2019 (his last full year on the mound).
FanDuel
Adrian Morejon , SP SD - Morejon had a solid first start out, though didn’t factor in the decision against the GIants. Why not take a shot on him on Sunday as he’s facing an offense that’s struck out 31-percent of the time against southpaws this year and has really struggled as a whole this week including getting no-hit two nights ago. We’ll need him to go five to get the win points but he’s been stretched out to be a starter so as long as he’s efficient, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Phillip Evans , 3B PIT - Evans has been playing 3B for the Pirates since Ke’Bryan Hayes has been out with his injury and in that time, he’s been a more than competent replacement, hitting 7-for-19 off of RHP’s with three home runs. Evans is hitting second in the lineup today and he’s just $2,400 on FanDuel. In a return to Pittsburgh, Williams may get touched up as he gave up ten homers to RHH’s in 22.2 innings last year compared to five in 32.2 IP versus left-handed hitters.
Both Sites
Andrés Giménez , SS CLE ($3,600 DK, $2,000 FD) - Gimenez made the list for both sites simply because he’s this cheap on both and he’s been quite solid in the lead off spot for the Indians and has the ability to steal bags. However, if we’re looking specifically on FanDuel we can also stack César Hernández with Gimenez as Hernandez is only $2,700 and has a very good history against José Ureña , who in his career has been hit hard by left-handed hitters. He’s given up 48 homers in 290.2 against LHH’s for a 1.49 HR/9 and both Gimenez and Hernandez can hit from the left side of the dish.
Michael Taylor, OF KC ($3,700 DK, $2,900 FD) - Taylor has continued to stay hot and facing Dylan Cease and his control issues, shouldn’t necessarily be a concern at this point in the season. Neither site appears interested in upping his price much more and so while he stays a solid play with at least one hit in every game this season, let’s keep getting the value in the lineup.
Dylan Carlson, OF STL ($3,000 DK, $3,100 FD) - Carlson has been the best power bat for the Cardinals to start the year with three homers already and he’s also the only one to have a homer against a left-handed pitcher in the lineup this year. While he hasn’t stolen a bag yet he does have the speed to do so and it’s just a matter of time before he starts swiping bags. Why not take the power upside against a hittable lefty in Brett Anderson today?
