  • Baltimore has hit the 11th most home runs versus right-handed pitching.

Players to Watch

  • Adam Jones - Amongst all the trade rumors, Jones has been playing fantastic baseball of late, probably the best of the year. He’s slashed .385/.429/.538 over his last 10 games. Jones is 11-for-30 with three home runs off of Masahiro Tanaka .

  • Chris Davis hit two home runs on Monday and has scored nine runs over his last five games. Davis has quite the forgettable season, however, hitting .153.

  • Trey Mancini is hitting .316 over his last 10 games but is only hitting .229 versus right-handed pitching on the year. He has hit 10 of his 13 home runs off of righties, however.

New York Yankees

  • New York ranks second in home runs versus right-handed pitching.

  • New York ranks second in runs scored versus right-handed pitching.

  • New York ranks second in RBI versus right-handed pitching.

  • New York ranks fourth in OPS versus right-handed pitching.

  • New York ranks fourth in wOBA versus right-handed pitching.

Players to Watch

  • Giancarlo Stanton - Stanton has hit .324 over his last 10 games, but he’s only hitting .215 at Yankees stadium on the year. On top of that, he’s only batting .249 versus right-handed pitchers.

  • Greg Bird - Bird has had at least one hit in 16 of his last 18 games and is hitting .333 since the All-Star break. Bird has an .826 OPS for the entire month of July as well.

  • Miguel Andujar - Andujar has his average all the way up to .293 for the year thanks to his month of July in which he has hit .333 thus far. He hit seven home runs in June, but has zero in July and this is his last day to hit one.

Pre Game Props

1. Y. Ramirez (BAL) throws more called balls than M. Tanaka (NYY) in the 1st Inning

Seeing how Masahiro Tanaka prides himself on throwing strikes, it’ll be hard for me to say he’ll lose this one. I’m going to AGREE that Ramirez throws more balls than Tanaka does. For reference, Ramirez is averaging 3.18 BB/9 innings while Tanaka is only at 2.24.

2. The first out of either half of the 1st Inning is a groundout

Both Ramirez and Tanaka have groundball rates north of 40 but also have K-rates of 25-percent or better. Groundballs and strikeouts will come in bunches, but with how often they both get grounders, I’m going to AGREE that one of the first outs of each half will be a grounder.

3. A batter from either team takes the first 4 pitches of an at bat in the 1st Inning

Neither team has an active player within the top-30 in the league in walks. Aaron Judge ranks seventh but he’s on the DL. I’m going to DISAGREE that someone takes a four-pitch walk.

4. 2 or more BAL batters swing at exactly 1 pitch in the 1st Inning

Baltimore is such a free-swinging team and Tanaka pounds the strike zone so this is almost a LOCK that all of the Orioles swing the bat here. Just once, however, is doubtful. I’m going to DISAGREE once again.

5. A BAL batter sees 7 or more pitches or only 1 pitch in the 1st Inning

There is a far better chance at a one pitch at-bat than a seven-pitch at-bat. If I had to guess, Adam Jones is going to see one pitch.

6. A BAL batter reaches a 3-1 count in the 1st Inning

I’ll continue to harp on the fact that Masahiro Tanaka is a strike thrower. I DISAGREE that Baltimore sees a 3-1 count in the 1st.
