Eric Staal scored his first goal as a Buffalo Sabre Friday.

Staal was dealt to the Sabres from Minnesota in the off-season to take over as the team's second line center. The 36-year-old provides veteran leadership and the goal, the 437th of his career, gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead. Staal has some fantasy value in deeper leagues.

Rasmus Dahlin was benched for most of the second half of the Washington game Friday.

Dahlin played only 10:13 as coach Ralph Krueger was not happy with his performance. Dahlin has yet to get a point this season and this could be a wake up call for the first overall pick in the 2018 Draft. Dahlin saw only one shift in the last 26:42 of regulation and turned the puck over during the power play, finishing his night. Don't be surprised if Dahlin is a healthy scratch Sunday.

Coach Bruce Cassidy is expecting defenseman Matt Grzelcyk to play Saturday.

Grzelcyk played Philadelphia on Thursday after he left Monday's game early and then was injured once again against the Flyers. He sat out practice Friday but is feeling okay. "Grizz actually felt pretty good, didn't go out on the ice obviously, but he'll try it in the morning. I suspect that he'll play," said Cassidy. "Grizz was the guy that got hurt [Thursday] night, went into the boards awkward, but knock on wood nothing serious this morning. Let's keep him off and get him ready for [Saturday]." Stay tuned as Grzelcyk quarterbacks the Boston power play.

Despite scoring the shootout winner Thursday, Jake DeBrusk is still without a point this season.

The Bruins have played four games to date and DeBrusk has not made it on to the scoresheet, at least to fantasy managers. "It's nice to produce and help the team out," DeBrusk said Friday. "Obviously that's something that I'm here to do. When I got my name called there, I didn't know it was gonna be the winner, but I wanted to score, and it was definitely a good feeling early in the season. To get a look like that, I wanted to make the most of my opportunity and I went with the move that I thought would work, and it did...was nice to do my part." DeBrusk has played on the top line the last two games with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron but with David Pastrnak's return imminent, DeBrusk should find himself once again back on the second line.

Gabriel Landeskog picked up the game-winning goal in Friday’s 3-2 OT win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Landeskog posted two points in this matchup, starting off with an assist on a goal by Mikko Rantanen at the start of the third period. In overtime, Landeskog was initially denied by John Gibson on an odd-man rush attempt, but he regained control of the puck and scored a wraparound goal that sealed the victory for the Avalanche. Landeskog now has three goals and two assists for a total of five points in his first five games of the year.

Philipp Grubauer made 36 saves in Friday’s 3-2 OT win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Grubauer allowed two goals on a total of 38 shots and finished the night with a .947 save percentage. Grubauer put up a solid performance in this matchup, especially as he kept the Ducks at bay during all five of their power play attempts. This win brings his season record up to 3-1-0. Grubauer has only had one game this season where he had a save percentage below .900.

John Gibson made 29 saves in Friday’s 3-2 OT loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Gibson allowed three goals on 32 shots and finished the night with a .906 save percentage. Gibson kept his team in this game, especially as he stopped a penalty shot by Nathan MacKinnon in the third period that forced this game to go to additional minutes before it was settled. In overtime, Gibson was unable to stop a shot by Gabriel Landeskog that sealed the loss for the Ducks. His season record now sits at 1-1-2. Regardless of the outcome, Gibson has been putting up pretty solid goaltending performances in his past few games.

Adam Henrique picked up a goal in Friday’s 3-2 OT loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Henrique picked up his first point of the season as he finished off a 2-on-1 rush to tie the game 2-2 in the third period. His goal forced this matchup to go to additional minutes. This goal was much needed, as Henrique went the first four games of this year without picking up a single point. Last season he led the Ducks in goals with 26 and in points with 43.
