With fantasy hockey playoffs slowly coming to an end, the waiver wire becomes even more important. It’s taken weeks for us to get here, and now it’s time to finish the job. Injuries at this time of the year can cripple a fantasy team, but if you look for value on the waiver wire, you can survive the loss and still make a push for the championship. With that, let’s take a look at which players you should be looking to add this week off the waiver wire.

Derek Stepan - Arizona Coyotes - Center

The Arizona are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, and with the Derek Stepan back from injury, they are going to leave it all out on the ice next week. The veteran forward is going to be counted on to help produce offensively, which is good new for fantasy hockey owners. Stepan hasn’t hard a great season based on his stats, but for fantasy owners who need a depth forward heading into the next round, he’s certainly worth the risk.

Gustav Nyquist - San Jose Sharks - Winger

The Sharks are a lock to make the playoffs, but they still have some meaningful hockey left to play till the end of the season. Nyquist has found himself on the top line with Logan Couture and Timo Meier, and that’s a good thing. The veteran forward only has six points in 12 games with San Jose, but he’s getting an opportunity to play with some talented plays on the top line, so fantasy owners who need to add a winger for next week should look to add Nyquist. The opportunity for him to succeed is there, now he just has to make the most of it.

Alexander Edler - Vancouver Canucks - Defence

I will continue to talk about Alex Edler until the fantasy hockey community gives him the respect he deserves. He is by far the best defenceman on the team, yet for whatever reason, he’s only 44% owned heading into next week. Does the fantasy hockey community not understand that Edler is a must own? As long as he is healthy, he deserves to be owned. This shouldn’t be rocket science. If for some reason he’s available in your league, you need to add him. Thank me later when he helps you win a championship.

Paul Stastny - Las Vegas Golden Knights - Center

Is there a reason why Paul Stastny is only 43% owned on ESPN heading into next week? The 33-year-old is playing on a line with Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty-- two of the league’s best goal scorers. He seems like an easy add for fantasy owners who need a some center depth. If he can feed the puck to his wingers, he should have no problem racking up some late season points. If he’s available on the waiver wire, add him immediately!

Philipp Grubauer - Colorado Avalanche - Goalie

It’s amazing to see that Grubauer is only 19% owned on ESPN when he’s clearly the best goalie on his team. Semyon Varlamov has not been good this season and it’s time for Colorado to realize that if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive, they need to roll with Grubauer. Fantasy owners who are in need a goalie for next week should look to add Grubauer immediately. He may not win you a fantasy hockey championship, but he won’t hurt your chances. He’s the best goalie available on the waiver wire.
