Dustin Byfuglien was going to resume skating back in January following ankle surgery until his agent apparently told the Jets that his client didn't plan to continue his rehab and didn't want to play hockey.

As previously reported, Byfuglien and the Winnipeg Jets have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. Byfuglien ultimately walked away from $14 million between what he would have received in 2019-20 and what he was owed for 2020-21. He can sign anywhere as an unrestricted free agent now, but it's unclear if he will continue playing at this time. He's 35-years-old and has played in 869 career NHL games.

Greg Pateryn is happy to now be a member of the Colorado Avalanche.

The Avalanche acquired Pateryn from Minnesota in exchange for Ian Cole. Pateryn practiced with the Avalanche on Wednesday and is an option for Thursday's contest. “It’s really exciting to watch some of these guys play and I’m really looking forward to getting out there with them (for games),” Pateryn said. “A lot of guys play with a lot of pace and it’s really fun to watch and it should be fun to get in there.” Pateryn has two assists in three games this season, but he's more of a defensive defenseman despite those initial offensive contributions.

Dominik Simon skated alongside Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan during Wednesday's practice.

“I’m always very happy, obviously, when I get a chance to play with those guys. I’m thankful for that,” Simon said. “I’m just trying to stay calm, keep it cool and play my best possible game with them." Simon has some experience playing with stars. He's skated alongside Sidney Crosby in the past. Simon isn't going to be a major offensive force even if he does see some shifts on the top line, but this is still a good opportunity for him and it will be interesting to see how it works out.

Chychrun has a goal and five points in four games in 2020-21. He had an assist on Wednesday, extending his season-opening streak to four contests. He can't be expected to maintain anything close to this pace though. His career-high in points is 26.

Ryan Miller described his first start in over 10 months as "a shock to the system."

Between the Ducks' 2019-20 campaign being cut short due to the pandemic and the 2020-21 campaign being delayed, Miller hadn't made a start from March 10th until Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Minnesota. He stopped 29 of 32 shots against the Wild. “It was definitely a shock to the system after a long layoff and no preseason games,” Miller said. “It really is different when you strap on the pads and play against another team with two points on the line. There were things I was happy with and things I’m hoping to make adjustments on. But overall I felt pretty good about my own game and I thought we did a good job battling back in the second period as a group. It’s just disappointing we had a little breakdown in the third period and just couldn’t recover again. It was a little disappointing.” Miller did give the Ducks a chance to win this one, but Anaheim fell short. Miller remains two wins away from Dominik Hasek and 14th place on the all-time wins list.

Shea Theodore posted a pair of goals in Wednesday's 5-2 win against the Arizona Coyotes.

Theodore finished with a plus-1 rating, four shots on goal and a blocked shot in his 21:12 of ice time across 26 shifts. The 25-year-old rearguard from British Columbia has now recorded at least one point in three of his four outings, totaling two goals and four points. Theodore is among the top three or four defensemen in Vegas, a team with an embarrassment of riches in the back end with Alec Martinez, Alex Pietrangelo, etc. He'll look to stay hot in the front end of a double dip starting Friday in Arizona.
