"It was nice to be with players that are better than you and learn from them and have fun. We had ice week after week, we all have a good sense of humor and worked hard," Norris said. Once the Senators finally have their training camp, Norris will be in a strong position to compete for a job. He stood out in the AHL last season, scoring 31 goals and 61 points in 56 contests. He could end up securing the Senators' second-line center spot after that impressive AHL campaign.

Carl Soderberg will make his Chicago debut Sunday against the Red Wings.

Soderberg missed the start of the season due to quarantining after he had trouble coming to the United States over immigration issues. He had 17 goals and 35 points in 70 games with the Coyotes last season and signed with Chicago as a UFA. He will replace Lucas Wallmark in the Blackhawks lineup.

Kevin Lankinen will get the start in goal for Chicago Sunday.

Lankinen will make his third straight start between the pipes after giving up five goals on 28 shots versus Florida Tuesday in his NHL debut, and then stopping 30 of 31 shots in a 4-1 win over Detroit. The Blackhawks play Detroit once again Sunday and Lankinen could take another step towards becoming a full-time NHL goalie with a strong performance.

Coach Peter Laviolette was pleased with the play of goaltender Vitek Vanecek Friday.

Vanecek has a chance to impress his coach as regular number one netminder Ilya Samsonov is out of action on the COVID-19 protocol list. "Vitek I thought played really well," Laviolette said after Saturday's practice. "He probably deserves to go back in there. ... There's no real plan or real path to how we're going about it or who's going to start or who's going to get in there or are we going to be able to see everybody. We're going game by game, and so the early conversations were about Vitek and how well he played last night and that he gave us an opportunity. I think we'll look at that and talk hard about that this afternoon and then make that decision." The Capitals play Buffalo once again Sunday and Vanecek could get the call unless Laviolette wants to see Craig Anderson play a game.

Ceci was a 20-plus minutes defenseman with Ottawa and Toronto but has averaged just 17:41 this season with the Penguins. “It just gives you a little more energy when you are out there,” Ceci said. “You don’t have to plan to save too much energy. You can go all-out on every shift.” Ceci has no fantasy value in pools at this time.

Lindblom was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer in December 2019 and rang the bell at the hospital on July 2, signifying he had finished his treatments. While he played in the playoffs last season, he was not at 100 percent and came to camp this season fully healthy. He has two goals and an assist in six games this season and has some fantasy value.

Coach David Quinn was happy with the play of Alexis Lafreniere on the Rangers top line.

Lafreniere, in his fourth NHL game, moved up to the first line with Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider and although he was held pointless once again, he acquitted himself quite well. “I thought that line had some good moments,” Quinn said Friday of the top line. “Alexis continues to do good things, and he’s going to continue to get better. It’s Game 4 into his NHL career. I just love his passion, his enthusiasm, before the third period him and Kreider are talking about he’s going to get his first point. I just like a lot of the things that he does. And again, he’s learning on the go. That’s not easy to do in this league. It’s just fun to watch him continue to work at his game and very coachable, wants to learn.”

Janne Kuokkanen has moved up to the second line in practice.

Kuokkanen has some offensive upside but has been buried as a bottom-six forward through the first four games of the NHL season as he has been held pointless. Kuokkanen moved to the wing with Miles Wood and Travis Zajac. "It gives him an opportunity to provide more offense to the top end," Ruff said of Kuokkanen. "Gives him a better look." While we cannot recommend Kuokkanen at this time, he may have some fantasy value shortly.

Nick Merkley practiced on the third line Saturday after the Devils activated him from their taxi squad.

Merkley started the season in Finland with Assat Pori of the SM-liiga where he picked four goals and 13 points in 19 games before the Devils ended their loan agreement. Merkley lined up with Nikita Gusev and Pavel Zacha and that trio could provide the Devils with some extra scoring heading into Sunday's matchup against the Islanders.
