Mark Bowman of MLB.com writes that the Braves have "continued to show strong interest" in free agent starter Charlie Morton.

Atlanta inked lefty Drew Smyly to a one-year, $11 million deal last week, but the club is apparently not done searching for starting pitching help. Morton, 37, posted a disappointing 4.74 ERA and 1.395 WHIP in 38 regular-season innings (nine starts) this past summer with the Rays, though he did perform well in the playoffs as Tampa Bay marched all the way to the World Series. MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported earlier this month that the veteran right-hander was drawing "some level of interest" from "at least" 8-10 teams.

R. Zimmerman - 1B

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Nationals are re-signing Ryan Zimmerman to a one-year, $1 million contract.

The Nats traded for Josh Bell last month, but Zimmerman offers an alternative at first base against left-handed pitching (and in the designated hitter spot, if it's available). Zimmerman, 36, re-signed with the Nationals on a one-year deal last offseason, as well, before ultimately choosing to opt out of the season. He's played all 15 of his season with Washington and in 2021 he'll make it 16.

M. Ozuna - RF

Hector Gomez of Deportivo Z 101 in the Dominican Republic reports that Marcell Ozuna is seeking a four-plus year contract and has drawn interest from the Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, Twins and Brewers.

Noticeably absent from that list of teams is the Braves, a club that was the beneficiary of Ozuna's monster 2020 season which saw him post a .338/.431/.636 batting line with 18 home runs and 56 RBI over 60 games. For what it's worth Braves president Alex Anthopoulos said early in the offseason that the team would "love" to re-sign Ozuna. That was three months ago, though. The general consensus is that Ozuna is more of a designated hitter at this point in his career, but it would seem he's drawing interest from clubs in both leagues.

N. Cruz - DH

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Twins have increased the dollar amount of their one-year offer to Nelson Cruz.

However, Heyman adds that "multiple NL teams are showing interest" in Cruz and the slugger is "waiting to see if a universal DH is adopted." Cruz is 40 but is said to be seeking a two-year contract this offseason, and if there is a universal DH it seems likely that some club will bite on the two years. He put together a .303/.397/.595 batting line with 16 homers in 214 plate appearances last season.

T. Bauer - SP

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Mets "aren't rushing to sign" Trevor Bauer.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported Thursday that the Mets and Angels could have the best chance to land the free agent starter. However, while the Mets do like Bauer and are monitoring his market, Heyman hears that the team's main targets are Jackie Bradley, Enrique Hernandez and Brad Hand. Of course, when you have the kind of money to spend that owner Steve Cohen does, nothing can be ruled out.

J. Arrieta - SP

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Jake Arrieta will throw a bullpen session for teams next Friday.

Arrieta will turn 35 in March and has posted a 4.75 ERA over 33 starts since the beginning of the 2019 season, so it's not a surprise that we've heard very little about his market this offseason. The veteran right-hander will probably have to settle for a modest one-year deal or maybe even a minor league contract.

J. Realmuto - C

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that while the Braves have "checked in" on J.T. Realmuto's market, they seem like a "long shot" to land the catcher.

FanSided's Robert Murray first reported Thursday that the Braves were in on Realmuto. Heyman notes that general manager Alex Anthopoulos has tried to land Realmuto in the past, but with Travis d'Arnaud coming off an excellent season and still under contract for 2021, it seems unlikely that the Braves would be ready to give the free agent a $100+ million contract.

J. Bradley Jr. - CF

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Mets have Jackie Bradley "on their radar."

In addition to the Mets, Heyman also lists the Phillies, Red Sox, Astros and Rockies as clubs that are monitoring the center fielder's market. The Mets would prefer a right-handed hitting center fielder in order to balance out their lineup, according to Heyman, but Bradley offers the best combination of defense and offense at the position.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that James Paxton is among the pitchers on the Blue Jays' "radar."

It would be a homecoming of sorts for the Canada native. Paxton -- who actually threw a no-hitter in Toronto during the 2018 season -- posted an ugly 6.64 ERA over five starts for the Yankees in 2020 while battling elbow and velocity issues. The left-hander had a showcase for interested clubs last month and will likely be looking at an incentive-laden, one-year deal this winter.

J. Odorizzi - SP

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Twins are "still interested" in re-signing Jake Odorizzi, but the two sides "remain apart on years and dollars."

Odorizzi is seeking a three-year contract, but obviously the Twins aren't willing to go to that length to this point. Jon Morosi of MLB.com says that the Angels, Giants, Blue Jays and Red Sox are also showing interest in the veteran right-hander. Odorizzi is arguably the best starter still on the market beyond Trevor Bauer and will turn just 31 in March, so he seems likely to get a third year from someone.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Padres have re-signed Jurickson Profar to a three-year, $21 million contract.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network says that the deal contains opt-outs after the first and second year. Profar seems kind of superfluous with Jake Cronenworth and Ha-seong Kim on the roster, but the Padres obviously value the 27-year-old's versatility. Dennis Lin of The Athletic says that Profar is expected to spend most of his time in 2021 in the outfield, although he obviously offers the flexibility to play the infield, as well.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the Cubs have agreed to a one-year contract with Austin Romine.

The deal is pending a physical and is worth $1.5 million, per Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times. Romine, 32, batted only .238/.259/.323 with two homers for the Tigers last season, although he was a decent-enough hitter for the Yankees the previous two years. As it stands right now he's slated to back up Willson Contreras, although that would obviously change if Contreras is traded.

Craig Mish of SportsGrid reports that the Marlins have agreed to a contract with Anthony Bass.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network says it's a two-year deal with a club option for a third year and is worth $5 million guaranteed. Bass is coming off back-to-back strong seasons for the Mariners and Blue Jays, posting a 3.54 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 64/26 K/BB ratio over 73 2/3 innings. The 33-year-old also notched 12 saves during that stretch and could be in the mix to close for the Marlins, although the team seems likely to add more bullpen help.
