Playing out of the penultimate threesome, past champ and World No. 34 Kevin Kisner spun a bogey-free 7-under-par 31-32=63 in the final round of The RSM Classic to match past champ and overnight leader Robert Streb (68) on 19-under 263, and lost to Streb's tap-birdie on the second playing of the par-4 18th in extra time.

This was the Georgia alum's 10th RSM, sixth top 25 and fifth top 10, four of those top 5s, including his win at the 2015-16 edition. He improves to 3-for-5 on the season with two top 25s (T14, ZOZO), but drops to 0-5 in sudden-death playoffs, 0-4 in non-team events. The 36-year-old, who was chasing his fourth TOUR win in 236 events, first since the 2019 WGC-Match Play 40 starts ago, settles for his ninth runner-up, first since T2 at the 2018 Open Championship as a 54-hole co-leader. After opening with 68-66-66, rounds 1 and 3 bogey-free, he began T5 on 12-under, five back of Streb. On 11 (of 14) fairways and 16 greens in regulation, the South Carolinian gained 1.530 strokes approaching, 0.536 around, and 2.334 tee-to-green. He penciled seven birdies at holes 2, 3, 7, 9, 10, 13 and 15, three from between 11 and 27 feet, posting 1.563 putts per GIR and 1.712 SG: Putting with 26 total putts, and also saved par from the fringe at 14 from 17'6". In the playoff, Kisner missed a 14'4" birdie try to win on the first tour of the 18th, while Streb saved par from 9'1", and then Streb claimed the title with a 15-inch winner after a stellar approach from 159 yards away (from the rough), while Kisner missed the fairway and the green, and then missed a hole-out from 68'4" away to extend.

Beginning off No. 10 tee, World No. 271 Chase Seiffert fired a 7-under-par 33-32=65 in the third round of The American Express to reach 12-under 204, up 29 spots to T8, three adrift of three tri-leaders at the top.

This is the 29-year-old's second AmEx after T21 last year where he was T4 after 54 holes (66-67-67-73). He arrived this week 3-for-8 on the season with one top 25, a T17 at the Sanderson Farms six starts ago, and off a missed cut by one at last week's Sony on 3-under 137 (65-72). The FSU alum's career best among two top 10s in 32 prior events is solo 4th at last season's inaugural Workday Charity Open as an alternate in his course debut. After opening with 72-67 (SC-NT), he began T37 on 5-under, one inside the cut line and three shy of the overnight top 10. Playing out of the third-to-last threesome, World No. 159 Emiliano Grillo walked off with bogey en route to a 4-under-par 31-37=68 in the third round of The American Express, up two places to T5 on 13-under 203, two back of tri-leaders Max Homa (65), Si Woo Kim (67) and Tony Finau (67).

This is the fourth time this season in 10 starts that the Argentine has been in the top 10 after 54 holes. One of the prior three resulted in a top-10 finish, a T8 at Mayakoba two starts ago as the 54-hole leader by one (66-63-68-72). The Florida resident is vying for his second TOUR win in 138 events, joining the 2016 Frys.com (now Safeway) 130 starts ago in his first start as a member, where he came from two back (T5) with 3-under 69 before prevailing in a 2-man playoff. This is the 31-year-old's fourth 54-hole lead/co-lead in 171 events, previously 0-for-3 converting. Most recently, he led last season's WM Phoenix Open by one before losing in a playoff to Webb Simpson (69-66-62-70), his second straight loss in extra time when leading/co-leading at the three-quarter mark (2019, WGC-HSBC). After opening with 66-70 (NT-SC), the 30-year-old began T10 on 8-under, three short of leader Sungjae Im (73), and conjured eight (of 14) fairways and hit 14 greens in regulation. His lone blemish was double bogey-6 at hole 7 (watered tee ball), smothered by nine birdies at 2-5, 8, 11 (fringe-shot from 14'1") and 14-16, four conventionally from between 11 and 23 feet, and also saved par at the last from 9'10". The Californian, who will play out of the final threesome on Sunday, is No. 1 in putts per GIR with a cumulative 1.405.

This is the Aussie's first time recording two eagles in a round in his 172 career lap and is currently three back of the leader on the course Max Homa. His most recent of two TOUR wins in 217 events is a come-from-behind version at the 2016 Travelers (from 3 shots back) 108 starts ago.

This is the 44-year-old's third mid-tourney WD in 416 events, first since the 2018 AT&T Pebble Beach during R3 (no reason given). The 2007 AmEx winner on debut (in a playoff) had kicked off with 70-66 (SC-NT), T10 on 8-under and three back of leader Sungjae Im. He opened Moving Day with a pair of par-savers at holes 1 and 2 from 6'11 and 5'10", respectively, and then withdrew after his second shot out of a fairway bunker at the par-4 third that traveled just 67'11" from 189 yards away. At press time, the San Diego native is still in the published field at next week's Farmers.
