Rangers coach David Quinn will wait until after practices and scrimmages during Phase 3 of the NHL Return to Play Plan to decide who will start in net during the Stanley Cup Qualifier round.

The Rangers will face the Carolina Hurricanes when play resumes in a best-of-five series to compete for the right to compete for the Stanley Cup. Igor Shesterkin, Henrik Lundqvist and Alexandar Georgiev will be in the mix for playing time. "You can make a case for all three guys," Quinn said on July 1. "There's a lot of reasons to take 'Shesty,' there's a lot of reasons to start Hank (Lundqvist), and there's reasons to start 'Georgie.' This is such an uncertain time that that will play out over the course of the two and a half weeks that we're going to have before we drop the puck." Shesterkin had earned the No. 1 goalie job for New York prior to the pause of the 2019-20 season.

Sean Monahan picked up two assists in Monday's 5-2 victory against the Vancouver Canucks.

Monahan ended up with a plus-1 rating, three shots on goal and he won 10 of his 16 faceoff attempts (62.5) in 19:40 of ice time across his 19 shifts. The 26-year-old Brampton, Ont. native has registered a least one point in each of his three games to date, including a goal and four points with a power-play goal and a helper on the man advantage. Monahan and the Flames will look to stay hot, but they have several days off before welcoming the Toronto Maple Leafs to town on Sunday afternoon.

Johnny Gaudreau registered a goal and an assist in Monday's 5-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks.

Gaudreau ended up with a plus-1 rating, and he scored on his only shot on goal in 19:29 of ice time across 19 shifts. Johnny Hockey has picked up at least one point in each of his three games, including at least one power-play point (1 G, 2 A) to date. The 27-year-old is looking to improve after posting 18 goals and 58 points across 70 regular-season games last season. Next up is a visit from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday afternoon.

Jacob Markstrom allowed two goals on 27 shots in Monday's 5-2 victory against the Vancouver Canucks.

Markstrom didn't come up with a shutout like he had in his first meeting against his former team, but the results were nearly identical. He improved to 2-0-1 with a 1.99 goals-against average and .935 save percentage across his first three starts for the Flames, and two of those wins are against the team which elected to let him walk in free agency. The only thing that can cool him down is the NHL schedule maker, as the Flames are off again until Sunday afternoon when the Toronto Maple Leafs come calling.

Tyler Myers registered a shorthanded goal in Monday's 5-2 road loss against the Calgary Flames.

Myers was all over the place, posting a plus-1 rating, a shot on goal, four blocked shots, a minor penalty and a hit in his 23:49 of ice time across 28 shifts. He had nearly two more minutes of ice time and two more shifts than every other Vancouver rearguard. Myers was blanked across the first three games with a minus-2 rating. He has averaged just about 30 points per season across the past three seasons, and he remains useful only in deeper fantasy leagues.

Thatcher Demko allowed four goals on 31 shots in Monday's 5-2 road loss against the Calgary Flames.

Demko went head-to-head with former Vancouver starter Jacob Markstrom, who allowed just two goals on 27 shots in his second win in as many games against his old mates. The Canucks made the decision to let Markstrom walk, committing to Demko as their future with newcomer Braden Holtby as the bridge netminder. So far that plan isn't looking like such a good decision, as Markstrom has twice as many wins in the crease as both Vancouver netminders through three games.

Max Pacioretty scored his third goal of the season in Monday's 4-2 home win against the Arizona Coyotes.

Pacioretty has scored a goal in each of his first three games so far this season, posting a plus-4 rating with at least five shots on goal and he had the game-winning tally in overtime against Anaheim on Saturday. It's been a tremendous start for the 32-year-old Connecticut native. He'll look to keep the goal-scoring streak going on Wednesday night in the second end of the double dip against the Coyotes.

Chandler Stephenson registered a goal and an assist in Monday's 4-2 game against the Arizona Coyotes.

Stephenson was good for a plus-2 rating in his 13:41 of ice time across 19 shifts, and he won eight of his 13 faceoffs (61.5 percent). It was his first game with two points since Feb. 6, 2020 at Florida when he had a pair of helpers. The 26-year-old Saskatchewan native has managed three points across his first three games, but he remains useful only in deeper fantasy leagues.

Reilly Smith notched two goals in Monday's 4-2 victory against the Arizona Coyotes.

Smith picked up the equalizer early in the third period to make it 2-2, and he registered a shorthanded empty-net goal with just 12 ticks on the clock. He ended up with a plus-2 rating and three shots on goal in 20:16 of ice time across 24 shifts. It was his first two-goal performance since Aug. 11 against the Chicago Blackhawks in a qualifying round robin game in the bubble. It was his first multi-goal game in the regular season since Feb. 28, 2020 against the Buffalo Sabres, when he notched a game-winning tally.

Derick Brassard picked up a power-play assist in Monday's 4-2 road loss against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Brassard helped out on the power-play goal by Nick Schmaltz midway through the second period to make it 2-0, but the lead wouldn't last for the Coyotes. It was Brassard's first point on the man advantage, and his third assist and point through the first three games with his new team. As long as the veteran continues to see time on the power play he has some fantasy appeal in leagues of 12 or more teams. The Coyotes are back at it in the second end of the double dip in Vegas on Wednesday.

Tyler Pitlick scored a shorthanded goal in Monday's 4-2 road loss against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Pitlick opened the scoring midway through the first on an unassisted shorty to beat Robin Lehner. It was the first shorthanded goal of his NHL career. He ended up with a plus-1 rating, a blocked shot, a minor penalty and two hits in 17:03 across 25 shifts. He registered eight goals and 20 points last season in Philadelphia, parlaying that into a two-year, $3.5 million deal in the desert. Despite the goal, Pitlick isn't someone to target outside of the deepest of fantasy leagues.

Robin Lehner allowed just two goals on 33 shots in Monday's 4-2 win against the visiting Arizona Coyotes.

Lehner was a little shaky early on, allowing an unassisted shorthanded goal to Tyler Pitlick just 8:24 into the game. He also allowed a Nick Schmaltz power-play goal midway through the second to fall into a 2-0 hole, but that was the last time Arizona would beat him. VGK rattled off four straight unanswered goals to double up the 'Yotes, helping Lehner improve to 2-0-0 with a 2.01 goals-against average and .926 save percentage over his first two outings. Next up for Vegas is a rematch Wednesday night against Arizona.

Kuemper was actually staked to a 2-0 lead, as Tyler Pitlick had a shorthanded goal midway through the first period, and Nick Schmaltz struck for a power-play marker halfway through the second. It's the second part which didn't go so hot, as the red-hot Max Pacioretty beat him late in the second to slice the lead in half, then VGK erupted for three in the third from Reilly Smith, Chandler Stephenson and Smith again on a shorthanded marker. Kuemper hasn't been bad in his two starts, but he hasn't been outstanding, either. He drops to 0-1-1 with a 2.95 goals-against average and .903 save percentage to date.
