Both of Tatar's markers were of the even-strength variety, and Brendan Gallagher had a hand in each of them. Price was staked to a 1-0 lead after a first-period power-play goal, the Habs backed him with three more goals in the second, and he had a 5-0 lead midway through the third. The only thing to spoil his night, and that of his fantasy owners, was a score by Slater Koekkoek at 12:59 of the third. Price improved to 1-0-1 with a 2.92 GAA and .913 save percentage in his two starts so far. Montreal has three games in four days, playing Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Price go Monday and Thursday, with perhaps Jake Allen making his debut Wednesday.

Varlamov was scheduled to start the match, but was injured during the pregame warmup when it appeared as though he was struck around the throat area by a puck. He didn't suit up in the contest and Ilya Sorokin was forced to make his NHL debut. He allowed five goals on 32 shots in a 5-0 loss to the Rangers. Coach Barry Trotz called it "unacceptable" to hurt your own goalie and he was also upset with how the team played in front of Sorokin.

Sorokin was forced to make a surprise start after veteran Semyon Varlamov suffered some sort of an upper-body injury. Varlamov was hit up high by a puck, just underneath the mask during pregame warmups and he went down face-first, and was attended to by the training staff. There will be better days for Sorokin, and you can chalk his shaky performance up to nerves after the unexpected start. He showed during his days in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) that he is more than capable of handling the duties in the crease.
