Ryan Suter is well aware that the window on the Suter-Zach Parise era of the Minnesota Wild is closing.

“We’re running out of chances,” Suter said. Suter and Zach Parise signed 13-year, $98 million contracts with Minnesota back in 2012 and the hope at the time was that those big offseason acquisitions would make the Wild major playoff contenders. In the first seven seasons with that duo though, the Wild haven't managed to get past the second round. Their contracts do run through 2025, but that's not a good thing. Suter is 35-years-old and Parise is 36, so those contracts are rapidly in danger of becoming liabilities. Arguably Parise's already is while Suter has managed to remain an elite defenseman. If he starts to decline too then it will be very hard for the Wild to remain competitive while they still have those two contracts weighing down their cap situation. With that in mind, the Suter-Parise era might end with a bit of a rebuilding phase, but for now the Wild have another shot at the playoffs. Jul 30 10:47 am (EST)
