The Athletic's Matt Barrows expects No. 25 overall pick Brandon Aiyuk to be the 49ers' "best outside-the-hashes target."

Connecting dots, Barrows expects Aiyuk to "essentially (take) over for Emmanuel Sanders." Like most of the 49ers' pass catchers, Aiyuk is a YAC threat, but he also has the speed and catch radius to do damage on the outside. He was excellent on go routes in the PAC-12. The 49ers' passing-game distribution is a bit of a black box in the COVID year, but Aiyuk is well worth a late-round flier in 12-team leagues.

The Athletic's Matt Barrows "wouldn't assume" Raheem Mostert will be the 49ers' official starting running back.

Barrows believes coach Kyle Shanahan might lean toward starting Tevin Coleman because he’s "a little bigger and more physical runner than the others." Perhaps Coleman will begin the year as the official "starter," but there is still more reason than not to believe Mostert will be the touch leader. 28-year-old injury concern Jerick McKinnon remains the wild card of the Niners' ever-evolving backfield. The RB26 by FFPC ADP, Mostert's draft cost is reasonable relative to his upside. No one seems in the dark about his obvious downside.

Packers signed WR Malik Turner, formerly of the Seahawks.

Turner is a warm veteran body for one of the league's most barren receiver corps after Devin Funchess opted out of the season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Headed into his age-24 campaign, 2018 UDFA Turner caught 15 passes for 245 yards (16.3 YPC) and a touchdown last season but was most remembered for a critical Divisional Round drop against the Packers he is now signing with. He would not be facing great 53-man roster odds most places, but the Packers' receiver group is not most places.

DT Mike Daniels' one-year contract with the Bengals is worth "up to" $2.7 million.

It's not much for a player of Daniels' stature, but it is also not surprising for a 31-year-old whose past two seasons have been cut short by injury. If Daniels can get healthy, he could be a massive bargain opposite interior mainstay Geno Atkins.

The Giants' presumptive agreement with free agent CB Ross Cockrell has fallen through.

Cockrell passed his physical and COVID test but balked at contract terms the G-Men thought he had already agreed to. The Giants need a veteran body with DeAndre Baker on the commissioner's exempt list. Cockrell made 11 starts for the Panthers' undermanned 2019 defense. A journeyman headed into his age-29 campaign, Cockrell isn't going to get too many more 53-man roster opportunities.

Broncos signed OT Demar Dotson, formerly of the Bucs, to a one-year contract.

The longtime Bucs starter had generated scant interest on the open market before the Broncos came calling over the weekend. The Broncos needed a veteran body after Ja'Wuan James opted out of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dotson appears set to slot in as RT Elijah Wilkinson's direct backup.

Titans placed DL Vic Beasley on the active/PUP list.

The "summer of Vic" rolls on. Having reported more than a week late, Beasley promptly failed his physical. It could be something as simple as not passing the conditioning test. Whatever it is seems unlikely to be serious. Beasley's Titans career has gotten off to the most curious of starts.

Colts signed S Tavon Wilson, formerly of the Lions.

Wilson, 30, has started 43 games for the Patriots and Lions over the past eight years. He posted a career-high 98 tackles in 2019. The Colts needed safety depth after two of their reserves opted out of the season.
