Luis Garcia picked up a no-decision against the Angels on Monday after allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Angels.

Garcia struck out seven while walking two. The 24-year-old was excellent over the first five innings, allowing just an RBI double to Jared Walsh. The sixth frame wasn’t as fruitful, however, as he gave up homers to Walsh and Justin Upton before exiting with a 4-3 lead. That lead was given up by the Houston bullpen, so Garcia’s record remains 0-3 on the season. A so-so start in results that also showed glimpses of what could be for the right-hander in future seasons. Garcia will try and pick up that first win on Saturday against the Rangers.

Jose Suarez was charged for just a run over four innings on Monday in his appearance against the Astros.

Suarez was fortunate to allow just the one run, as he gave up five hits and three walks and struck out just one. He came in after opener Junior Guerra gave up a three-spot in the first, and while there was definitely some good luck, it’s fair to credit the 23-year-old for keeping the Angels in the game as the bulk-hurler. Suarez has mostly been awful in the majors with a 7.99 ERA coming into this contest over 21 games and just-over 83 innings, and it would be a mistake to consider him in any fantasy format for 2021.

Tyler Naquin homered, doubled and drove in four runs Monday as the Reds crushed the Pirates 14-1.

Naquin had just one extra-base hit, a double, in 14 games from Apr. 20 to May 7, but he's now homered in back-to-back games, bringing his season total to eight homers in 104 plate appearances. The Reds have more flexibility to play him now that they're using Nick Senzel at second base, so he's of use in mixed leagues, especially when the Reds are at home.

Tyler Mahle held the Pirates to one run in 5 1/3 innings and struck out seven in Monday's rout.

Mahle was roughed up by the Cubs last time out, but he's allowed two runs or fewer in his other six starts this season. He's currently striking out 32.4% of the batters he's faced. That's up from 29.9% last year, which was up from 23.2% in 2019 and 21.7% in 2018. It seems like progress to us.
