M. Melancon - RP
Melancon didn't allow a baserunner and struck out two in the ninth inning to record the save Thursday against Philadelphia.
M. Soroka - SP
Soroka (13-4) allowed two earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out five across five innings Thursday to earn the win against the Phillies.
Russell was activated from the 7-day concussion list prior to Thursday's game against the Cardinals, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
R. Acuña Jr. - CF
Acuna went 1-for-3 with a walk, two-run home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Phillies.
V. Caratini - C
Caratini will not start at first base Thursday against the Cardinals as anticipated.
A. Rizzo - 1B
Rizzo (ankle) was added to the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals.
It was thought that Rizzo was still a few days away from being ready to play, but he worked out prior to Thursday's game without issue, so the Cubs felt comfortable getting him back in the lineup right away. Rizzo will lead off and play first base in his return.

Cain left Thursday's game against the Padres with left ankle discomfort.
Russell (concussion) could be activated Friday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
