2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: In his first look at major league pitching, Bailey slashed .233/.285/.359 with seven home runs and 18 doubles across 97 games. It was really a tale of two seasons for Bailey, as he slashed .293/.324/.493 in his first 38 games, but alongside a double-digit drop in his hard-hit rate, he slashed just .188/.256/.258 over his final 56 games. He had some pretty gnarly splits last year, too, as he was substantially better against LHP (.298 AVG, .829 OPS).

2024 Outlook: He may open the year as the starter, but the team brought in Tom Murphy for competition. Bailey is a superior defender to Murphy, so that should help lengthen his leash a bit to begin the season, though the elevated strikeout rate and declining numbers as the year went on are far from ideal. Bailey shouldn't be drafted as more than second catcher in the deepest of mixed league formats, and in NL-only formats, he's a back-end starter who has enough intrigue in his batted ball profile to maybe flirt with 10-15 home runs and a .240 batting average, if things go well.
