Rays RHP prospect Nick Bitsko underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a labrum issue in his right shoulder.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times tweets that Bitsko is sure to "miss some of [the] 2021 season" but that the exact timeline for his return can't be determined until he gets into the rehab process. Yes, you’re reading this correctly. The 35-year-old former major-league outfielder has made the transition to pitching in Australia and finally made his first appearance on the mound. He issued a pair of walks, but managed to induce an inning-ending twin-killing to keep the Brisbane Bandits off the scoreboard in the ninth inning. He last appeared in the major leagues with the Orioles back in 2015.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that free agent reliever AJ Ramos has been drawing interest and will throw for teams on Tuesday.

Ramos made it back to the major leagues, surrendering one run on four hits with three walks and one strikeout over 2 2/3 frames (three appearances), with the Rockies during the 60-game sprint season last year. He missed nearly two full years after undergoing shoulder surgery during the 2018 campaign. The 34-year-old righty owns a pristine 3.08 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 427/203 K/BB ratio across 368 2/3 innings in his career. He'll compete for an Opening Day roster spot somewhere this spring.

According to Chris Miller of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, free agent infielder Ehire Adrianza will not be returning to the Twins next season.

It's unclear whether Adrianza has an exact destination lined up for the impending 2021 campaign, but he appears to have signaled an end to his four-year run in Minnesota with a recent Instagram post thanking the fans of the Twin Cities. The versatile 31-year-old switch-hitter owns a .244/.310/.360 triple-slash line with 16 homers and 18 stolen bases across 1,220 career plate appearances since 2013. He appeared in just 41 games, posting a lackluster .557 OPS during the truncated 2020 campaign. He’ll likely be able to latch on as a reserve utilityman and compete for a big-league roster spot this spring.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the Yankees are in talks with the Pirates regarding right-hander Jameson Taillon.

Well, that escalated quickly. Feinsand reported earlier that Taillon could be the next player jettisoned by the rebuilding Pirates in the next day or two as they embark on their full-scale teardown. He also notes that nothing is done yet, but the Pinstripes appear to be emerging as the frontrunners to deal for him. Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the two teams have been discussing a potential deal over the last few days, while Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette adds that his sources indicate the Pirates have been weighing offers from multiple teams. The 28-year-old righty missed the entire 2020 season after undergoing the second Tommy John surgery of his professional career. He's expected to be fully healthy and ready to go for the start of the upcoming 2021 campaign. He owns a 3.67 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 419/117 K/BB ratio over 466 innings (82 starts) in his major-league career.

Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports that the Red Sox would still like to add a left-handed bench bat this offseason.

Cotillo notes that free agents Marwin Gonzalez, Brad Miller and Mitch Moreland would fit the bill as left-handed complements to feast-or-famine free-swinger Bobby Dalbec at first base this season. Perhaps the most intriguing short-term option, Gonzalez has been connected to several teams including the Tigers and Twins in recent weeks. The Red Sox inked super utilityman Enrique Hernandez to a two-year, $14 million deal to fill their second base vacancy and don’t appear to be done adding to their lineup via free agency just yet.

Tigers signed LHP Derek Holland to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The club hasn't confirmed yet, but Holland made the announcement via his official Twitter page. The 34-year-old left-hander compiled a bloated 6.86 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 45/15 K/BB ratio across 40 2/3 innings over 12 appearances (five starts) with the Pirates last season. He'll compete for a spot in the Tigers' Opening Day bullpen and could serve as a swingman, oscillating between the starting rotation and long relief, this season.

According to Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com the Orioles have had trade discussions with the Marlins regarding outfielder Anthony Santander.

Kubatko notes that the Orioles don't appear to be aggressively shopping Santander, but they'd be willing to move him in the right deal. Jon Heyman of MLB Network also reports that the Marlins have "kicked tires" on a potential deal. The 26-year-old switch-hitting right fielder appeared to be on the verge of a full-scale breakout, trimming his strikeout rate and increasing his average launch angle to tap into additional raw power, during the truncated 2020 campaign. He posted a solid .261/.315/.575 triple-slash line with 11 round-trippers in 37 games, before suffering a season-ending oblique injury in early September. He's set to earn between $2.475 million and $2.1 million in his first year of arbitration this season and was one of only 13 players unable to come to terms with their club when exchanging salary figures last week. Santander could emerge as a logical cost-cutting move for the Orioles, who have cheaper alternatives like top prospect Yusniel Diaz waiting in the wings, and remain committed to keeping their payroll down as their extended rebuild continues.

Tigers signed INF Drew Ward to a minor league contract.

The 27-year-old third baseman spent the first seven seasons of his minor league career in the Nationals organization -- most recently hitting .269/.322/.513 with 18 homers and 66 RBI across three levels in 2019. He absolutely raked for the Fargo-Moorhead Hawks in the independent American Association in 2020, slashing .335/.407/.633 with 17 homers and 45 RBI in 58 games. He'll add corner infield depth for the Tigers.
