Jordan Lyles kept the Astros to two runs over seven innings but took the tough-luck loss Thursday.

Lyles nearly matched Astros starter Framber Valdez pitch for pitch, save for one that Kyle Tucker ripped over the right field wall in the second inning for a two-run shot. That homer ended up being the difference in the game, unfortunately for Lyles, and marred what was otherwise a brilliant night for the 29-year-old. Lyles gave up just three hits and walked one over his seven innings, easily his best performance of the abbreviated 2020 season. It's one that's brought more pain that joy for the right-hander this year, who even after Thursday's start is just 1-5 with a 7.07 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 49 2/3 innings in total. A date with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday offers some intrigue for the desperate streamers as the season nears its conclusion. Sep 17 10:31 pm (EST)
