2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: As a starter last year, Rea posted a 4.75 ERA across 22 starts, though he did make four appearances outside of a starting role. Home runs were a problem last year for him, coming in at a 1.66 HR/9 mark, and despite the addition of a sweeper to his pitch mix, his strikeout rate only jumped to 21.3 percent, though that was a career best mark for him. Over his final 10 starts of the season, he allowed two or fewer earned runs in eight out of those 10 outings, despite still having issues with the long ball.

2024 Outlook: He'll need to make adjustments to better account for left-handed hitters, as lefties slugged .502 against him last year, not to mention a .571 SLG against him in his home park, which is notoriously good for left-handed power. The addition and further development of his sweeper in particular should help sustain a 20+ percent strikeout rate in 2024, but home runs should still follow him, en route to another year with an ERA in the mid-to-upper 4s and a 1.25-1.35 WHIP.
