Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers -170

Game Total: 8

Game Play Predictions

Milwaukee Brewers

  • The Brewers are right around league average when it comes to several offensive categories. They are 16th in runs scored, 16th in batting average, 19th in on-base percentage, and 15th in slugging percentage.
  • They are facing off against Rich Hill , who is a left-handed pitcher, which is a spot they struggle. The Brewers have a .299 team wOBA vs LHP, which is bottom 10 in the league.
  • The Brewers have won five of their last six games while scoring five or more runs in five of those games.
  • The Brewers come into this game with an implied run total set at 3.51, which is lowest on the entire day.
  • Milwaukee has the fifth lowest team batting average vs LHP, but have the second fewest strikeouts as a team.
  • Christian Yelich has a 15-game hitting streak in the works, with four home runs, eight doubles, and 15 RBIs.
  • Jesus Aguilar is a bit cold right now, with no home runs in his last nine games, but still has a .259 ISO vs left-handed pitchers.
  • Ryan Braun has a hitting streak of his own, six games so far, where he has one home run, one double and five RBIs.

Los Angeles Dodgers

  • The Dodgers are top 10 in several pitching categories this season. They are 2nd in earned run average, 3rd in quality starts, 3rd in WHIP, and 5th in batting average against.
  • Rich Hill is on the mound for the Dodgers tonight, who faced the Brewers two starts ago. In that game, he put up nine strikeouts in six innings, while only allowing one earned run.
  • The Dodgers are 3-3 in their last six games, where they have scored four or more runs in three games they won.
  • The Dodgers have the second highest team wOBA, .333, and the second highest team ISO .193 vs right-handed pitchers. They come in with an implied run total set at 4.49, which is the third highest run total on the slate.
  • Manny Machado has hits in six of his last seven games, with two home runs and four RBIs. He has a .257 ISO vs RHP this season.
  • Brian Dozier should be set to make his Dodgers debut tonight and in a good spot to make a good first impression. He has a .304 wOBA and a .195 ISO vs right-handed pitchers this season.
  • Matt Kemp is ice cold right now, with no hits in his last eight games. All of his first-half production has cooled off but is up against Chase Anderson who is giving up 1.77 HR/9 to righties this season.

Pre-Game Props

1) A batter from either team swings at the first 2 pitches of a plate appearance in the 1st Inning

I’m going with no on this one, as we generally see teams take pitches early in the game, along with both teams having low strikeout rates vs opposing pitchers.

2) Either team reaches scoring position in the 1st Inning

Yes on this one, but will likely come from the Dodgers side of things. Chase Anderson is on the bump for the Brewers, who is giving up a .347 wOBA to hitters the first time through the lineup.

3) A batter from either team takes 2 or more called strikes in the 1st Inning

No on this one for me, since as I said before, both teams have low strikeout rates vs the handiness of pitchers they are facing.

4) MIL batters combine to swing at 7 or more pitches in the 1st Inning

This is a firm no for me. Hill has a 9% swinging strike rate this season, which is very low, combined with the fact the Brewers have a 21% strikeout rate vs LHP, meaning they are disciplined at the plate.

5) MIL batters combine to see 5 or fewer called balls in the 1st Inning

Has to be a yes for this one. Hill has two or fewer walks in five of his last six starts, so not really getting too many balls called.
