WinView Games is a new app that allows you to wager on in game actions or events before they happen. I will be giving you a short overview of things from an NHL perspective, and some strategy behind it. It should be noted that this is meant to be played while you are watching the game. Based on the props they ask, it would be very difficult to “guess” what will happen next if you aren’t paying attention. Playoff hockey is like no other sport out there, and things can shift dramatically in just a few short minutes. That is when the props become the most interesting, because you need to be watching the game to pick all of this up.

For example, one prop they asked the other night was: Will there be an icing called by the 6:30 mark? When you are watching, you should be able to tell that one team is pinned in their zone, and are battling on defense to keep the puck out of their zone. This means they are likely to go for the easy clear, but will then take an icing call. Icing is common in the NHL, but it’s not like it happens every other play, so this is a prime example of why you need to be watching the game to make these prop bets. As you can see with the picture here, I bet, and won big on the icing call, +3,200, because I noticed those factors of a team being pinned in their zone, and thought an icing would be coming. That big win vaulted me up the leaderboard.

As the game is going on, in between periods, and at set stoppages, a popup will prompt you to make your predictions for the upcoming time frame. Some are very straight forward, such as: The next shot on goal is a score. You can answer to pass on it, or pick yes or no, and then select an amount to wager. Choosing how much to wager is the interesting/difficult part, because you also have to factor in where you are on the leaderboard. If you are falling behind a bit, it might be time to take a stand on a prop bet and go big, to get yourself back to the top. Another example of a prop they ask is: Will both teams combine to record 4 or more shots on goal by the 1:00 mark? This is a tougher one to answer, since you really have to have a feel for the game and how things are going. Is this game faster paced with a ton of back and forth action, or is it a defensive matchup with a lot of dump and chase, and thus fewer scoring chances.

You will also get asked a string of props during the intermission, before the new period starts. This is where you really want to load up on picks, so you will have a ton waiting to go. You are able to take this at your own pace, pick the props you want, pass on the ones you don’t want, and make this a new type of interactive viewing experience.
