There are a ton of risky games tonight due to weather. Philadelphia at Baltimore, the Yankees at Washington, the A’s at Boston, and Toronto at the Mets being the mostly likely to run into real problems, but that also includes the Cubs at Atlanta and the White Sox at Pittsburgh as potential delays and postponements. Be careful with your lineups.

What’s Happening

Robinson Canó was suspended for 80 games for performance enhancing drugs. He tested positive for the drug furosemide which is commonly used to treat liver failure, kidney failure and blood pressure, but isn’t typically used in connection with PEDs. I am very familiar with the drug in my work with alcoholics (I am a certified addiction specialist by trade.) That being said, it could very well have been used to help flush a player’s system while attempting to beat a drug test. Cano was just placed on the DL with a finger injury that will likely require surgery, which likely influenced his decision to drop his appeal as he will be able to serve the suspension while still injured.

Clint Frazier has been recalled by the Yankees. Frazier is a top prospect in all of fantasy, but doesn’t figure to play a ton in the stacked Yankees outfield. With Greg Bird returning soon, he likely won’t be up for very long either, so he isn’t worth a speculation play in the majority of formats.

In today’s only game action thus far, Jordan Lyles threw 7.1 innings with only one hit and one walk allowed while striking out ten batters. He had a perfect game for a while, but was unable to sustain it. This puts the Freddy Peralta outing from the weekend in perspective as the Rockies are just not hitting at all and have the lowest wRC+ of any team in the Major Leagues against right handed pitching.

Quick hits

Stephen Piscotty has returned to the team after being placed on the bereavement list after the death of his mother.

Joey Votto is sitting out tonight after experiencing back soreness and having to leave yesterday’s game. This appears to just be precautionary, but it is something to monitor.

According to Chelsea James, Adam Eaton has an updated timetable and expects to return in six weeks.

Bradley Zimmer was placed on the DL today. Zimmer crashed violently into the outfield wall last week and has struggled to play. There was discussions that he could avoid the DL, so this doesn’t appear too serious at this moment.

Jorge Soler is out tonight due to a displaced rib. Manager Ned Yost didn’t sound too worried, stating that Soler could return tomorrow.
