With fantasy owners trying to find speed on the waiver wire, those who took a sure thing will join the throes. Seattle placed Dee Gordon on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday with a broken toe. This will cause ripple effects for those in weekly leagues if Gordon’s active in locked lineups. When trying to identify potential replacements, it’s hard to believe over the last two weeks Gordon’s only slashed .180/.218/.240 with five runs, five RBI and two stolen bases. Yes, he’s been hampered recently by the toe injury, but the lack of steals prior to it seems baffling. Especially when Jean Segura swiped four in a game recently.

There’s no official timeline for Gordon to return, but it seems like he will be out for more than the 10 days. Any injury to the legs or feet of a speedster comes with concern. Here’s some players of interest with their statistics from the last 14 days for comparison:

Travis Jankowski , San Diego (OF) - 12 games, six runs, five stolen bases; .357/.449/.429

Jarrod Dyson , Arizona (OF) - 11 games, five runs, three stolen bases; .304.385/.304

Marcus Semien , Oakland (MI) - 12 games, eight runs, two home runs, nine RBI, two stolen bases; .315/.345/.463

Dustin Fowler , Oakland (OF) - 10 games, four runs, home run, six RBI, two stolen bases; .207/.294/.414

Brandon Nimmo , New York Mets (OF) - 10 games, five runs, home run, two RBI, two stolen bases; .250/.368/.438

Ian Kinsler , Los Angeles Angels (MI) - 12 games, three runs, home run, three RBI, two stolen bases; .209/.306/.349

José Iglesias , Detroit (MI) - 12 games, six runs, two home runs, eight RBI, three stolen bases; .333/.409/.590

There’s no perfect replacement above, but it’s surprising to see how well Iglesias has been hitting of late, definitely below the radar. Personally, it would be Jankowski or Semien if forced to choose if they’re on the waiver wire, but tough decisions could be in the offing. If looking to feel uncomfortable, check out Seattle’s lineup without Gordon, Robinson Canó and Nelson Cruz on Tuesday night. Woof.

Night Moves

Arizona put Steven Souza back on the disabled list due to his pectoral muscle strain. They recalled Sócrates Brito to replace him on the roster and the hits to the Diamondbacks roster keep on coming. This should solidify playing time for Dyson listed above as well.

In the midst of a four-game winning streak, the Mets must be feeling lucky signing José Bautista to a contract. Perhaps to troll the Braves, but this seems like a reach. However, the Mets could use some right-handed power in the lineup to balance Michael Conforto , Brandon Nimmo and Jay Bruce in the outfield.

Twitter often comes in more than one act. First, the prospect chaser euphoria when news broke about Tampa Bay promoting Willy Adames . He’s hitting .311/.387/.466 through 40 games with 24 runs, three home runs, 25 RBI and four stolen bases. Adames stay will be short due to his filling in for Joey Wendle while he is on paternity leave for the birth of his son.

Reports surfacing the Nationals will promote Erick Fedde to start Wednesday’s game for the readers who stream. Fedde’s going to face the Padres at home. At Triple-A, Fedde’s whiffed 42 over 41.1 innings with a 4.35 ERA and 1.40 WHIP.

Still no official word on Khris Davis other than he’s not in the lineup on Tuesday night as Oakland hosts the Mariners. This could go two ways, he sits out a couple of days, tests it and either ends up on the disabled list (backdated) or he tries to play through it. Either way, it will be stressful for his owners.

Burning Questions

What can fantasy owners do with Paul Goldschmidt ? Buy low? Sell at a discount?

Here’s some food for thought. Goldschmidt started 2016 slow as well with a .220 average on May ninth. It’s a bit later, but he’s slashing .201/.322/.361 after 47 games with a career high strikeout percentage of 30.7 and his soft contact hit rate at 22.2 percent, almost double compared to last year. Over the last 365 days, Goldschmidt’s hitting .265/.366/.501 with 108 runs, 31 home runs, 99 RBI and nine stolen bases with a .236 isolated power. These numbers are comparable to both Anthony Rizzo and Cody Bellinger .

Steamer’s rest-of-the-season projections peg Goldschmidt for 62 runs, 19 home runs, 62 RBI, 10 stolen bases and a .271/.388/.488 slash line with a .217 isolated power. He will need to improve upon his batting average on balls in play along with positive migration to the mean regarding his overall numbers. Feeling lucky? Trust the back of the baseball card?

Which ace turns in the best performance on Tuesday night, Chris Sale or Gerrit Cole ? Can Tyler O’Neill continue to mash his way into the Cardinals lineup? Should fantasy owners be paying more attention to Max Muncy ? J.D. Davis will start in left field for the Astros, he’s worth a look with playing time, right? Welcome to 2018.
