It was another shootout in Vegas at the Shriners and Martin Laird comes out on top in a playoff.  I was disappointed not to get the win for my one and done pick Matthew Wolff but I’ll take second place.  Another year and another winner 20 under par at TPC Summerlin.  We have got to be happy with the results of the playbook and example lineups this weekend and let’s hope for continued success as the PGA Tour stays for a second straight week in Las Vegas.

Typically the PGA Tour would start their Asian swing of the schedule starting this week but because of the pandemic, changes had to be made.  The last few years we had THE CJ CUP @ NINE BRIDGES in South Korea but this year they moved the event to Shadow Creek in Las Vegas.  You may remember this course from “The Match” a couple years ago between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.  This will be the first time the PGA Tour will host an event on this course and it’ll be a pleasure to see it once again.  The field will be the best we’ve seen since the U.S. Open.

One fact will remain the same this year as it has in previous CJ CUP tournaments, it is a limited field event around 80 golfers with no cut.  This always lends us to put more risk into your lineups knowing that you’ll get scoring from all six of your golfers all four days.

Shadow Creek is about 30 minutes north of the Las Vegas Strip in the middle of the desert but it is not a desert course.  This land was completely overhauled and built by Tom Fazio complete with rolling hills, lakes, creeks, valleys, and even a waterfall.  It’s literally an oasis in the middle of the desert.  The course is a Par 72 that stretches out 7,527 yards.  While that distance seems long, you have to remember that they will be playing at about 2,000 feet above sea level which will shorten the course.  There are water hazards on half of the holes and these greens are small.  Players must take advantage of the back nine with a few Par 4s and 5s that are getable.  Tee-to-Green game will be vital for success this weekend.  Some of the pros have played this course for various events or by invitation of a member but never in PGA Tour competition.  Dustin Johnson has the course record of 66.

The weather should be great this week with sunny skies and temps in the mid-80s.  There will be some wind averaging between seven to ten miles per hour with gusts that could reach 20.

TOP NEWS: Dustin Johnson pulled out of the event after testing positive for COVID-19.  Tony Finau who had pulled out from last week's Shriners Open after testing positive for COVID-19 has pulled out of the CJ Cup as well.
