After a whirlwind week across the pond at the Open Championship, the PGA Tour schedule does slow down as we've got a WGC event this weekend in Memphis. This WGC event used to be hosted by Firestone Country Club but has moved to TPC Southwind which hosted the FedEx St. Jude Classic from 1989-2018. 69 players qualified for this invitational but just 64 will compete as Rickie Fowler, Tiger Woods, Francesco Molinari, Lee Westwood and Bernd Wiesberger all declined. Tiger Woods basically said in his press conference on Friday after missing the cut at the Open Championship that he just "wanted to go home." This event traditionally was played the week before the U.S. Open which usually drew a weak field. It will now host the cream of the crop on the PGA Tour.

TPC Southwind is a beautiful par 70 that measures out 7,239 yards and considered a true test of a golfer. It challenges all parts of a player’s game. If you look over the course history, there isn’t a particular type of player that has dominated on this track. Even the most accurate players have had problems keeping it on the fairway which means rough proximity will be one of the key stats I’ll be targeting for my lineups.  The course features water hazards on ten different holes, we want ball strikers who can gain strokes off the tee to keep the ball dry. TPC Southwind’s greens are very small and difficult to hit, so players who rank highly in approach proximity and green in regulation are at a premium.

This will be a limited playbook as there are just 64 players in the field. When you have a small strong field like this, it makes it especially hard to make your lineup different. All of the players in this field have been playing great golf this season and that's why they were invited to play. I truly feel like you could put together any reasonable combination of players from this field and I'd probably line what you built. I mean howdo you pick between Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson this week. This field has made 87 of the 117 cuts at the old FedEx St. Jude Classic with 28 Top 10s. Both of them have terrific histories on this course and are Top 3 players in the world. So I'm going to give you the guys I'll have in a bulk of my builds but I'm not going to fault you for playing just about anyone this weekend.
