The last major championship of the 2018-2019 PGA Tour season and it takes place on a course that hasn't hosted the Open Championship in 68 years. This major has only been played outside England and Scotland twice and both trips across the Irish Sea were to visit this links course on the northern coast of Northern Ireland. To say that this tournament is highly antipicated would be an understatement. Don't believe me? This is the 148th edition of the Open Championship and it has sold out for the first time in history.
Despite the Open Championship not being played at this course, there has been two Amatuer Championships in 1960 and 1993 hosted here and six Senior Open Championships between 1995-1999 and in 2004. Three relatively recent major winners have ties to this course, Rory McIlory, Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke. The 2012 Irish Open was played on this course and 26 of this year's qualified Open players participated.
Royal Portrush is made up of two 18-hole courses and because this is a major championship, this event will be made up differently than the 2012 Irish Open. Dunluce Links will play host to the bulk of the tournament with two holes being borrowed from the Valley Links. The total course will measure out 7,344 yards and play as a par 71. This course is unlike most Open Championship courses in that there are only 62 bunkers on the entire track which is way below the standard. Tight fairways and eight doglegs await the 156 players with lots of risk/reward opportunities along the way. The dunes will be what players with wayward drives will have to contend with and getting themselves out of that tall whispy grass that you're used to seeing at the Open.
As far as weather, you will get typical Open Championship conditions with the day-time temperatures in the mid-60s, rain but no real definite time of arrival, and the winds will hit the hardest Thursday and Sunday along the Irish coast.
