DFS PGA PLAYBOOK - FEDEX ST. JUDE CLASSIC
Published: Jun 08, 2016
The U.S. Open is next week and while I know everyone is just chomping at the bit to get there, we have to stay focused on this week’s adventure at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
TPC Southwind plays host each year to the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee. This beautiful 7,239 yard track is a Par 70 and considered a true test for the golfer. While the course is not long, it does have very tight fairways which is why driving accuracy is important but not the be all end all. Let me explain.
When the course changed its greens from Bentgrass to Bermuda in 2005, it became obvious that there are two ways to beat this course. You must either be extremely accurate off the tee, which is easier said than done or be very good from the rough with your irons. Even the most accurate drivers on tour will have problems keeping the ball on the fairway at times, which means the longer hitters will have the advantage at TPC Southwind.
This is definitely not the strongest field we’ve seen this season but we do have a large field of 156 players with as usual the Top 70 plus ties making the cut. Brendan Steele, Luke Donald, Spencer Levin and Patrick Rodgers have all withdrawn from the tournament but beware, their names are still in the Draft Kings system.
When you are setting tournament lineups this weekend, do not fear going with the balanced approach. If you look at the top tier golfers, a lot of DFS players will want to go with the stars and scrubs approach trying to fit Dustin Johnson, Gary Woodland and Daniel Berger in their lineups with a lot of trash below $6500. Personally, I really like a lot of the 7K players which is why you’ll see a lot of them listed compared to the 8 & 9K golfers.
The best news of the weekend is that there does not seem to be any weather issues in Memphis besides being extremely hot. The highs throughout the weekend are listed in the upper 90s with clear skies.
And in finally, Paige! We could not go an article without our spiritual guide. She was pretty upset after seeing what Hideki Matsuyama did to everyone last weekend. He ruined what potentially could have been a huge weekend but here’s to another week. Also, lets congratulate our girl Paige on her first professional victory on the Cactus Tour last weekend. She shot 71, 74, and 68 to claim the victory. We can only hope that those positive vibes will come our way this week in Memphis.
THE U.S. OPEN IS NEXT WEEK … WOO HOO!!! Good luck to everyone this week!
