When looking to improve your daily fantasy sports game, solid assessment is just as important as the lineup building process and research.  It is easy to use the terms blasted off, or stinks, to describe how a lineup performed, but the key is understanding why.  My goal when building a lineup, is to have a valid explanation on how it was constructed, and how it will win.  I continue to urge everyone that if unsure about why you see or not see a player recommended, that you ask why.  After the slate is completed, it is always best to go back and re-assess how it performed. This strategy works for not just your lineups, but others as well.

Today, we will review and assess the DraftKings:  MLB $100K FOUR-SEAMER [20 ENTRY MAX] from yesterday, July 5th.

Contest Overviewhttps://www.draftkings.com/contest/gamecenter/42128734

The Four-Seamer was the large gpp tournament last night on DraftKings at the $4 entry fee level for the 12 game main slate.  The contest had 29,411 entries, and users were able to submit up to 20 lineups.

TOTAL FANTASY POINTS: 191.00

Breakdown:  While some users like myself, stayed away from both the Mets/Nats and Marlins/Cards due to weather concerns, the winning lineup scored 65 points from three Marlins, all for under 3% owned.  They did not roster any hitter for under $3,900, and the late night Royals combo of Hosmer and Mous, in lefty/lefty matchups, pushed this lineup to the top.  Bauer was the popular salary relief pitcher last night in all formats, and the Santana pivot play did not hurt or help his lineup, but could make the case that the CG bonus was what won it for them as well.

Key Move:  The Marlins and Royals picks.  While the Royals were on my radar last night, the Marlins were not.  Stanton’s two bombs placed him with the highest fantasy point total of the night, and no other hitter reached the 30 point mark.  Ten players hit the 20 point mark, and the winning lineup had three of them, all for under 3% ownership.

What else you need to know:   Single bullet Winner! The user entered just one lineup in this contest to hit for first pace.  Also, the top three finishers all had some combination of Miami players.

TOTAL FANTASY POINTS: 108.40

Breakdown:  The last lineup to cash in this contest was roughly 82 points behind the winning lineup.  They used the most popular pitching combo of the night in Wood and Bauer.  The mini-Giants stack of Posey, Belt, and Pence carried this lineup to a barely cashing performance.  To fit Nolan, they had to go cheaper with a few positions.  It paid off with Hunter, but need their over $5K player to produce, which did not take place.

Key Move:  No risk pitching.  This pitching combo would have provided you with a little under half of the points needed to cash in this tourney.  Wood was the top pitcher by more than 12 points, while eight pitchers scored in the single digits only.  The Pence/Belt combo was also key at under 4% owned.

What else you need to know:   Single entry lineup for this user.  Not sure why Smith made it in over Hernandez or Zimmer.  Would have paired went for an additional combo player over stand alone Smith.

TOTAL FANTASY POINTS: 103.35

Breakdown:  Bauer was the popular pitcher on DK for both cash and gpp’s last, and Wood and Cole finished as the two highest scoring pitchers last night.  While the Tigers, Rockies, and Reds struggled  last night, the Astros and Rangers did not.  Paying up for Springer and Altuve paid off in the cash lineup, and with Valaika, it had three of the top seven hitters last night.  The gpp lineup had Odor, but the rest of the hitting did not come through.

Key Move:  Paying up for the Houston combo, and switching out deGrom.  I had deGrom, Wood, and Bauer as my three main pitching targets, but with about 20 minutes before the first pitch, weather concerns forced some scrambling to remove deGrom.   Upton and the rest of the Tigers had plenty of opportunities, but didn’t hit in the clutch.  Going Springer over Blackmon or Betts helped, but should have looked more at Gomez or Profar in the gpp lineup.  Taking Broxton out also hurt.

What else you need to know:  These were the only two lineups I entered in this contest.  The cash example lineup finished in 888th, and the gpp example finished just out of the money in 9,972.  To see how the cash lineup did in a double up,  click on the link https://www.draftkings.com/contest/gamecenter/42122544?uc=779283414
