Backfields are starting to have some clarity with three games in the books. Between injuries and performance, we’ll hopefully be on the right track in most spots going forward. It was another busy week so let’s dive in.

Kerryon Johnson , RB DET -  He got a career-high 20 carries in the wake of CJ Anderson being cut. That means big things for him, especially with the increased goal-line work.

Alvin Kamara , RB NO - With no Drew Brees the Saints leaned hard on Kamara. That wasn’t surprising and is likely to continue in Brees’ absence. What was surprising was the lack of work for Latavius Murray in a game they were leading.

Saquon Barkley , RB NYG - The big injury of the week was sadly to Barkley. He’ll miss 4-8 weeks with a high ankle sprain. Wayne Gallman was a priority add as the only true runner left. Watch out for a veteran signing in the coming days, though.

David Montgomery , RB CHI - I don’t know what to tell you fellow Montgomery owners. The Bears were up big and didn’t lean on him nearly as hard as we would have liked. His snap share went up to 67%(+23%). That’s maybe a glimmer of hope.

Chiefs RB’s - Kansas City’s backfield is messier than ever and with Damien Williams poised to return there’s no clear way to predict what will happen there.

Aaron Jones , RB GB - Matt LaFleur was true to his word and got Jamaal Williams more involved in the Packers run game. Jones was still the more talented back scoring two impressive red zone touchdowns. That split is cause for concern, however.

Chris Carson , RB SEA - Another Carson fumble is cause for concern. He wasn’t being sloppy with the ball, it was just a nice punch from behind. Nevertheless, with each fumble he likely lets Rashaad Penny into the backfield split more.

Ronald Jones , RB TB - Jones flashed some ability with the Bucs leading most of the game. That was different from the prior week when Peyton Barber was their guy with a lead. This is a tough backfield to figure out.

Christian McCaffrey , RB CAR - CMC is still getting absurd usage through three games. He plays almost every snap, garnering almost every RB touch.

Devonta Freeman , RB ATL - Freeman was back into his workhorse role with Ito Smith getting concussed. The production was better but still subpar. Freeman also only caught 3 passes, which is a disappointment in a negative game script.

Miles Sanders, RB PHI - Sanders caught a few nice passes. It doesn’t matter. This is your weekly reminder that the Eagles use a three-way rotation.

49ers RB’s - The 49ers have gone full-blown committee and Jeff Wilson is indeed their goal-line back. Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert have nice efficiency numbers but will split the work between the 20s. Oh, and Tevin Coleman is close to practicing.

Ezekiel Elliott, RB DAL - The Cowboys gave Tony Pollard more carries against a toothless Dolphins team. I don’t read into that any further than there was no need to wear down Elliot.

Todd Gurley , RB LAR - Gurley is holding steady at about 50 snaps and around 15 carries. It’s TD or bust here.

Redskins RB’s - Chris Thompson and Adrian Peterson are going to split snaps evenly it seems. Thompson has to be the favorite given the likelihood Washington is trailing in games.

Frank Gore , RB BUF - Gore was solid with a heavy workload. That should continue with Devin Singletary out, if at a lower efficiency than he showed against the hapless Bengals.

Joe Mixon , RB CIN - Speaking of Cincy, Mixon is coming along with his recovery from an ankle sprain. They’re not likely to be leading very often, however. That means trouble with Gio Bernard getting some passing work.

Phillip Lindsay , RB DEN - Lindsay was the better RB in Denver scoring two TDs. Royce Freeman remains with half the work heading his way, though.

Marlon Mack , RB IND  -Even with some injury concerns, Mack is seeing significant touches. That seems like a signal going forward.

Patriots RB’s - The Patriots keep doing Patriot things. Don’t trust a New England running back
