UFC FIGHT NIGHT 139 LIVE FROM DENVER COLORADO

We are back after last weekend’s amazing night of fights capped off with Cormier defending the heavyweight belt and making history being the only person ever to successfully defend two titles in two different divisions.  This card we have a lot of young talent looking to make a statement in their respective divisions. Davi Ramos is one that has been on many people’s radar. He is one of the best ground grapplers in the UFC right now. We have a knockout artist in Julian Erosa who will definite bring some excitement. We have a few veteran fighters who are looking to stay on top with Donald Cerrone against a young spark plug in Mike Perry. We end the night with “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung vs last minute replacement Yair Rodriguez. It will be interesting to see how both fighters adjust to the last-minute change in the bout.

We will start the show off as usual on Fight Pass Prelims.

UFC Fight Pass Prelims 6:30pm EST

Mark De La Rosa 10-1 vs Joby Sanchez 11-3

Mark has one KO/TKO, six submissions, and three decision wins. He has three 1st round wins. He holds a black belt in Jiu jitsu. He has a strong boxing background as well.

Joby has three KO/TKO, four submissions, and four decision wins. He has two 1st round wins. He was a New Mexico Jr Olympic Wrestling Champion. He has a blue belt in Jiu jitsu. He has quick hands and fast takedowns.

Should be a good fight. Very evenly matched. Mark will need to use his boxing to get into some type of clinch and work takedowns and get on top of Joby. He needs to be in the dominate position and not on bottom. Joby needs to get a quick takedown and use his wrestling and control and contain Mark on the ground and use some ground and pound. He will need to watch how he positions himself as Mark is a black belt in Jiu jitsu and could reverse or sweep him easily. I see this being a very exciting fight and going the distance. This very well could go to a draw it will be that close. But I see Mark with a slight edge and getting the win.

Joseph Morales 9-1 vs Eric Shelton 11-5

Joseph has two KO/TKO, five submissions, and two decision wins. He has five 1st round wins. He is a four-time national Pankration Champion. He has a purple belt in Jiu jitsu. He has one Performance of the Night bonus.

Eric has two KO/TKO, five submissions, and four decision wins. He has five 1st round wins. Was a member of Team Benavidez on TUF 24? He has excellent standup and some devastating kicks.

Decent matchup between two young guys. Joseph has good striking, but his ground game is better. He will need to take the fight to the ground and work some ground and pound. He needs to utilize his Jiu jitsu to help control the tempo of the fight. Eric will look to keep the fight standing. He does have a solid ground game, but his standup is better. If he looks to take it to the ground, he needs to setup the leg kick to close the distance, so he can either clinch or work a takedown. Another fight that will go the distance. In the end I see Joseph with the win.

Fox Sports Prelims | 8pm EST

Devonte Smith 8-1 vs Julian Erosa 22-6

Devonte has seven KO/TKO and one submission win. He has five 1st round wins and is riding a four-fight win streak. He is a very fast and explosive striker. This is his UFC Debut.

Julian has ten KO/TKO, nine submissions, and three decision wins. He has four 1st round wins. He was a member of Team Faber TUF 22.  He has a very well-rounded game.

This is a mismatch of a fight. Devonte is brand new and is going against a very experienced fighter. Devonte will need to keep the fight standing. He is very fast, so he may look for a combination of strikes to try to end the fight early. But by doing that he needs to be mindful and not waste all his energy in that first round and make sure he has plenty of gas in his tank if it goes the distance. Julian is very experienced, and I see him slowing down the debut of Devonte. He will look to control the tempo of the fight. He will look to take it to the ground and work his submission strategy. In the end I see the Veteran Julian with another win.

Davi Ramos 8-2 vs Jon Gunther 7-1

Davi has one KO/TKO six submissions, and one decision win. His two losses are way of decision. He has won four of his last five. He has six 1st round wins. He is the 2015 ADCC Champ. He is a four-time Worlds and two-time Pan American Jiu Jitsu Champion. He has a 3rd degree black belt in Jiu jitsu.

Jon has two KO/TKO, one submission, and four decision wins. He has two 1st round wins. He was a member of Team Miocic on TUF 27. He has a blue belt in Jiu jitsu. He is well rounded.

I don’t see this fight lasting long. I’ve been watching Davi for several years in his grappling career. He is an absolute monster on the mats. I see him getting the big takedown and just smothering Jon on the ground. Jon needs to keep his distance and be more of a counter striker. He can’t hang with Davi on the mats. In the end I see Davi getting another quick submission win.

Chas Skelly 17-2 vs Bobby Moffett 12-3

Chas has three KO/TKO, ten submissions, and four decision wins. He has six 1st round wins. He has won six of his last seven. He was a high school state wrestling champ and a college all American. He has one Performance of the night bonus.

Bobby has one KO/TKO, eight submissions, and three decision wins. He has six 1st round wins. He has won five of his last six and includes three in a row. He holds a black belt in Jiu jitsu. This is his UFC Debut.

Even matched fight. Chas has a slight advantage as this is not his debut like it is for Bobby. So that could play a small factor into it. Chas will look for the big takedown and try and out wrestle and out work Bobby. Bobby is very comfortable with this fight going to the ground. He will most likely get taken down and he will then start to utilize his Jiu jitsu and work out from under and try to secure a more dominate position. This fight will go back and forth but, in the end, I see Bobby with a win by submission.

Ashley Yoder 5-4 vs Amanda Cooper 4-4

Ashley has four submission and one decision win. She is currently on a three-fight losing streak. She was a member of Team Joanna on TUF 23. She has a purple belt in Jiu jitsu.

Amanda has one KO/TKO, two submissions, and one decision win. She has 1st round wins. She was Team Claudia on TUF 23. She is also a purple belt in Jiu jitsu. She has a strong boxing background and was a 2010-2011 Amateur Golden Gloves Champion.

Decent match up. I see this fight being a must win for Ashley. She needs to control the fight and take down Amanda and use lots of pressure and keep her there. She needs to use some ground and pound to soften her up and then go for the submission. Amanda needs to keep the fight standing and use her boxing to get into a clinch then work the takedown and get on top. I see the fight going back and forth all fight and eventually going all three rounds. I don’t see it to be an exciting fight. But I see the judges awarding the fight to Amanda.

Main Event | 10pm EST

Michael Trizano 8-0 vs Luis Pena 5-0

Michael has two KO/TKO, two submissions and four decision wins. He has two 1st round wins. He was a member of Team Miocic on TUF 27. He has a kickboxing background

Luis has one KO/TKO, three submissions, and one decision win. He has one 1st round win. He holds a blue belt in Jiu jitsu. He also has a boxing background. He has one Performance of the Night bonus.

Should be an interesting fight. Both are coming in undefeated. Michael will need to use his kickboxing and keep Luis away until the time is right to take him down. He will also look to setup an anaconda choke once it hits. He favors this submission more than any other. Luis will need to get inside the striking ability of Michael and take him down early. He will need to use his Jiu jitsu and maintain control of the fight once it hits the ground. I see this fight going all three rounds and the judges awarding the fight to Luis.

Maycee Barber 4-0 vs Hannah Cifers 8-2

Maycee has one KO/TKO, two submissions, and one decision win. She holds a 2nd degree black belt in karate and a purple belt in Jiu jitsu. She can mix it up and doesn’t care if the fight is either stand up or ground.

Hannah has five KO/TKO and three submission wins. She has four 1st round wins and has won five in a row. She is a Muay Thai expert. This is her UFC Debut.

Maycee will need to be a counter puncher in this fight. She will also need to avoid the Muay Thai clinch of Hannah and try and take this fight to the ground. She will need to control her and work some ground and pound. Hannah will use her Muay Thai and look for another knockout. Look for her to get into the clinch and use lots of knees and elbows to wear Maycee down. In the end I see Hannah dominating Maycee in her debut and getting another KO.

Beneil Dariush 14-4-1 vs Thiago Moises 10-2

Beneil has three KO/TKO, six submissions, and five decision wins. He has six 1st round wins. He has won seven of his last eleven. He is a black belt in Jiu jitsu and Muay Thai. He is also a Jiu jitsu no Gi world champ. He has one Performance of the Night bonus.

Thiago has two KO/TKO, four submissions, and four decision wins. He has won four of his last five fights. He has two 1st round wins. He is very well rounded and hunts for armbars. This is his UFC Debut.

Well matched fight. Beneil will look to take the fight to the ground and use some ground and pound. If the fight stays standing he will look for the Thai clinch and throw elbows to soften up Thiago. Thiago needs to stay out of the clinch and try and get the takedown first. He needs to remain on top to be successful against a veteran. In the end I see Beneil coming out on top.

Raquel Pennington 9-7 vs Germaine de Randamie 7-3

Raquel has one KO/TKO, three submissions, and five decision wins. She has won six of her last nine. She was a member of Team Tate for TUF 18. She has wins over Miesha Tate, Bethe Correia, Jessica Andrade, and Roxanne Modafferi. She has one Performance of the Night bonus.

Germaine has three KO/TKO, and four decision wins. She was an undefeated Muay Thai champion. She beat Holly Holm for the inaugural women’s featherweight belt. She has one Performance of the Night bonus. She hasn’t fought in 20 months.

She is an exciting fight., Raquel will need to push the pace since her opponent has fought in almost two years. Look for her to take the fight to the ground and use ground and pound to setup some type of submission. Germaine will look to our strike Raquel. She will use that Muay Thai experience she has to look for the clinch and start using elbow and knees. In the end I see Raquel winning by judges’ decision.

Donald Cerrone 33-11 vs Mike Perry 12-3

Donald has nine KO/TKO, sixteen submissions, and eight decision wins. He is a Muay Thai expert and has a solid wrestling background. He has wins over Yancy Medeiros, Patrick Cote, Benson Henderson, Eddie Alvarez, and Edson Barbosa. He has five Performance of the Night, eight Fight of the Night, three Knockout of the Night, and two Submission of the night bonuses.

Mike has eleven KO/TKO and one decision win. He has seven 1st round wins. He too has a Muay Thai background. He has wins over Paul Felder and Jake Ellenberger. He has two Performance of the Night bonuses.

Going to be fireworks in this fight. Cerrone is getting up there in age and can’t fight like he used to several years ago. He will need to be methodical against Perry who is a KO artist. Cerrone needs to get into the clinch and take the fight to the ground and work his ground game. Mike will be setting up a big KO punch from the gate. He will look to keep this fight standing. In the end I see the wily Veteran Cerrone with the win.

Main Event

Chan Sung Jung 14-4 vs Yair Rodriguez 11-2

Chan has three KO/TKO, eight submissions, and three decision wins. He hasn’t fought since February of 2017, and before then he was out for his two-year mandatory military service in his home country of North Korea. He has a kickboxing background and is also dangerous on the ground. He has wins over Dustin Poirier, and Dennis Bermudez.

Yair has four KO/TKO, two submissions, and five decision wins. He has four 1st round wins. He holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He was the TUF LATAM Season 1 winner. He has wins over Andre Filli, Alex Caceres, and Bj Penn.

Should be an exciting fight between these two guys. The fight was supposed to be Chan vs Edgar, but Edgar had to withdraw due to injury. Chan hasn’t been in the cage in a while, so he may have some rust. He will need to use his kickboxing and control the tempo of the fight. He is also dangerous on the ground so look for him to possible shoot for a takedown. Yair will need to come out fast and furious. He needs to wear down Chan and control the fight. He will use his legs kicks to soften up Chan or even look for that high head kick for a KO. In the end I see this fight going past three rounds and Yair with a KO in the 4th round.
