Week 5 is in the books. Injuries and byes played a role in offensive production for sure, but only time will tell whether it’s the start of trends or not. The list this week is varied, and has the most tight ends than it has before.

Target Monster

George Kittle- The San Fran tight end was the most targeted receiver of the week with four balls thrown his way against the Colts. In all he caught three of the passes, two for scores, and now sits second on the team with five total red zone targets. As mentioned in the Game Previews, the Washington defense poses a much tougher test than did the Colts, so he maybe a one-week wonder.

Zay Jones- Things are getting bleak in Buffalo now that Charles Clay is out for the season and Jordan Matthews is battling injuries. Jones however saw three targets in Week 5, though he didn’t catch any of them. He is now the active team leader in red zone looks with four on the year, and after the bye week faces Tampa Bay as likely the top threat on the outside for Tyrod Taylor.

Cole Beasley- Week 5 was a standout week for Beasley as he quadrupled his season total with the three looks he had on Sunday. Two of those came inside the five and the three targets made up half the attempts Dak Prescott had against the Packers. He turned those looks into two catches and two scores, but despite his big week, he still trails both Jason Witten and Dez Bryant in the season totals. Dallas gets San Fran in Week 7.

Zach Ertz- Ertz has been a favorite target for Carson Wentz this season, and Week 5 was no different. He saw three targets come his way and caught two of them including for a score. He continues to be the team leader in the red zone and that should continue the rest of the way, especially with the stated goals of the OC.

Most Efficient

Davante Adams- Another week, another Green Bay wideout is on the list. Adams caught two of the three attempts his way and scored twice in the win over the Cowboys. With the three more targets, that gives him nine on the season and ties him for second in the league with Dez Bryant and Chris Hogan. His 66.67% catch rate is impressive and the six grabs ties him for the league lead. Unless he’s injured, Adams should be in your fantasy lineup with that kind of production.

Darren Fells-Fells is an oft-forgotten member of the Lions offense, and for good reson. However Week 5 he showed up big time. He had two catches all day, both in the red zone and both for scores, the only two touchdowns that Matthew Stafford threw. Eric Ebron still dominates the TE position for them, but it was nice to see Fells get some action too.

DeAndre Hopkins- The Texans-Chiefs game was explosive affair and it saw Hopkins produce good red zone numbers. Two targets turned into two grabs and two scores for the Texans stud. Those looks raise his season total to seven, but his teammate, Will Fuller, also saw two looks with two grabs and a score on his own against the Chiefs. As long as Deshaun Watson continues to be hot, which should be easy against Cleveland, both are big time fantasy producers.

Charcandrick West- West had one red zone target the whole season before Sunday, now he has three. The two he saw on Sunday night both resulted in touchdowns for the running back. It’s clear that Kareem Hunt is the top dog in the backfield, but West does have three times the amount of targets Hunt has in the red zone.

Ones to Watch

Hunter Henry- Fantasy owners have been confused by Henry all season, though he is starting to show life. This week he added three red zone targets to his total, though he didn’t catch any of them. It’s good to see Philip Rivers look his way. His teammate on the other hand, Melvin Gordon, caught both of his looks inside the 10 and converted both for scores. Gordon now has four targets in the red zone, and has caught three for scores.

Kyle Rudolph- Rudolph had his best game of the season on Monday night against Chicago. That included scoring his second touchdown of the season on his lone red zone target of the game, one of only two thrown by the combination of Case Keenum and Sam Bradford. He is tied with Stefon Diggs for the team lead, with four a piece, and has seen 25% of team targets inside the 20. Despite the quarterback issues, he is still getting looks.

Evan Engram and Roger Lewis- The only two healthy pass catching weapons for Eli Manning at the moment, so they should see the bulk of the red zone looks, when they get there. The two of them have combined for three targets so far this season but with Sterling Sheppard, Odell Beckham Jr., and Brandon Marshall, who have combined for 12, out for the next couple of week and season, it clears room for Lewis and Engram.

Cameron Brate- The Thursday night game against New England doubled his targets for the season, and ties him for the team lead at six. He turned those three targets into a catch and one score. The fact that all but one of his targets have come in the second half of games, and four of them have come in the fourth quarter, mean they are turning to the big target when it counts. Week 6 they play Arizona, who has given up 23 catches, 228 yards, and two scores to TEs so far this year.
