The Saturday main slate for DraftKings and FanDuel has plenty of intriguing matchups. In the four games it features a rivalry game, an ACC contest, and two interesting non-conference games between marquee programs. It all gets underway at 11am EST as the Florida Gators and Florida St Seminoles renew their rivalry, one in which the Noles have won the last seven meetings. The Kentucky Wildcats (1-3) dropped out of the Top-25 last week and is looking to avoid a dreadful 1-4 start as they host Notre Dame at noon. At 12:30 EST Cincinnati goes on the road to take on #12 Tennessee Volunteers and then it wraps up at 1pm EST with Syracuse traveling to Chestnut Hill to take on Boston College. As of now all games are a go but keep in mind with COVID that could change in an instant, so that is something to monitor.
While it may be the least attractive game of the slate for fantasy purposes the Syracuse/BC game figures to be the best one in terms of scoring. BC’s defense has been pretty lousy this season, as they are allowing 82.4 points per game to their opponents. Syracuse however is only a four-point favorite and expect it to be a high scoring and close contest, so look to get some Orangemen and Eagles in your lineups.
Saturday Main Slate by O/U
- Syracuse (-4) at Boston College 1pm- 148
- Notre Dame at Kentucky (-7.5) 12pm- 144
- Florida at #20 Florida State (-3) 11am- 140.5
- Cincinnati at #12 Tennessee (-9) 12:30pm- 132

Buddy Boeheim | SYR | BC | 7500 | 32.75 | 4800 | 28.60 |
This is a situation where I like the matchup more so than the player. Boston College is giving up a robust 82.4 ppg and it isn't like BC hasn't played many games, they've played five. Boeheim averaged 15.3 ppg as a sophmore and in his only game this season (missed three games due to contact tracing for COVID, but should return for this one) he had 21 points against Bryant. BC isn't a terrible defensive team against the three (29.9%) but they've allowed 97 attempts from deep so you know Syracuse is going to let it fly. Also we no Buddy's father Jim will definitely try to get his son involved a lot in this one. A good pay down option could be his teammate Joe Girard ($5400). |
Keith Williams | CIN | TENN | 7100 | 28.92 | 7400 | 27.40 |
Cincinnati figures to have a tough matchup against #12 Tennessee but that won't stop me from including Keith Williams as a top guard to target. The reason being is that he has a usage rate of 35.1%, which ranks 14th in the nation. Williams is averaging 17.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 2 apg. He is also a senior so expect the Bearcats to lean on their lead guard to shoulder the load against the Volunteers. |
Brandon Boston Jr. | UK | ND | 6800 | 25.94 | 7500 | 23.60 |
Last week I included Brandon Boston as a guy to target considering Kentucky was off to a 1-2 start and in desperate need for a win. So much for that as Kentucky struggled mightily in a 79-62 loss to Georgia Tech. Boston was no exception as he only had 11 points (4/13) and four rebounds. Now UK will host Notre Dame and look to avoid a dreadful 1-4 start, look for Brandon Boston have a bounce back game at home. Once again, Terrance Clarke ($5700) will be a good paydown option, as he was really the only Wildcat that game to play against Georgia Tech, scoring a team high 23 points. |
Yves Pons | TENN | CIN | 6400 | 16 | 5300 | 15.00 |
Tennesse has only played one game this season, a 56-47 victory over Colorado on 12/8, and senior Yves Pons had a tough night shooting, He only scored two points but he was able to get ten rebounds leading to salvage 16 fantasy points. Pons though did make the preseason SEC first-team and for a $6400 pricetag thats pretty good value amongst the top guards. Last season he averaged 10.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg but also averaged 2.4 blocks per game which is pretty crazy for a guy who is only 6-6. The last thing that makes Pons attractive is that he is G/F eligible so offers flexibility |

Tre Mann | UF | FSU | 5900 | 28.5 | 6200 | 26.33 |
Tre Mann was considering a one-and-done guard going into last season. However he really disappointed in his freshman year on a Florida team that also really disappointed. This season Mann is really blossoming into the type of player recruiting services hailed him to be. This season he is averaging 15.3 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 4.4 apg through Florida's first three games. He has also been uber efficient shooting 50% from the floor including 62.5% from three. This game against rival FSU the Gators will be looking to avenge a 63-51 loss, I don't know if they will beat the 'Noles but expect a much more competitive effort and Mann being a big part of it. |
Makai Ashton-Langford | BC | SYR | 5500 | 21.2 | 5900 | 19.92 |
Makai Ashton-Langford came to Providence looking to be the next great Friar guard after Kyron Cartwright, Kris Dunn and Bryce Cotton. His career at PC turned out to be a disaster and after two seasons he transferred to BC. After sitting out last season MAL is having a nice season. He isn't a great shooter but he's finally becoming the slashing guard who likes to get others involved that he was projected to be out of high school. He's averaging 9.3 ppg, 3.6 rpg and 3.3 apg. Again, I expect this game vs Syracuse to be a high scoring one and Ashton-Langford provides value. |
Devin Askew | UK | ND | 3700 | 11.56 | 3700 | 9.45 |
Kentucky's reason for their slow start is their poor play of their point guards Askew and Davion Mintz. Askew being the highly touted recruit has probably heard the most criticism from BBN. Askew has played 29 mpg yet has a stat line of 6.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.0 apg and an unsightly 3.3 turnovers per contest. The thing about Kentucky and Coach Cal will often remind you that his guys are kids. Typically his kids tend to figure it out sooner than later. So Askew especially in a cash game could be a very nice pick if you're looking for a bargain. |

Keyontae Johnson | UF | FSU | 7800 | 31.5 | 6700 | 28.37 |
Keyontae Johnson is the most expensive forward on the DK's early main slate and for good reason. He is averaging 19 ppg and 6 rpg. When FSU played Indiana as part of the ACC-Big 10 challenge, Trayce Jackson-Davis gave the Noles fits with a 25 point and 17 rebound performance. Johnson is a bit smaller than TJD but he is built like a house and last season against FSU had 19 points. Look to try and fit him in your lineup despite the price tag. |
Alan Griffin | SYR | BC | 7400 | 33.25 | 7100 | 29.77 |
I mentioned BC gives up 82.4 ppg but what I didn't mention was they play a pretty small lineup. That is why I love Syracuse's forwards in this one. Griffin is averaging 17.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg and 3.3 apg. Griffin himself isnt that tall at 6-5 but he is second in the team in rebounds and is a stat stuffer, expect him to have a nice night vs BC. As a slight paydown option you could go for his teammate Quincy Guerrier ($7200), who leads the Orange in rebounding 9.5 rpg and isnt far being Griffin in scoring at 16.8 points per contest. |
Nate Laszewski | ND | UK | 7000 | 30.42 | 7000 | 27.77 |
Nate Laszewski is an inside-outside big man for the Fighting Irish. The 6-10 junipr forward from Jupiter, FL is averaging 15 ppg and 9.7 rpg but what is really eye-popping is he is shooting 62.5% from the floor and a ridiculous 75% from three (granted he only takes about three a game). Olivier Sarr has really struggled for the Cats and Laszewski could prove to be a mismatch against him due to his perimeter game. |
John Fulkerson | TENN | CIN | 6300 | 15.75 | 5600 | 14.60 |
Like John Fulkerson in this spot for the same reason why I like his teammate Yves Pons. Fulkerson is another guy who made preseason all SEC first-team and relatively quiet opener for the Vols. Against Colorado he had 11 points and three rebounds but again here is another guy who provides great value amongst the top forwards. Pons and Fulkerson are the new version of Schofield and Williams so get them in your lineup while they are at this lower pricetag. |
Raiquan Gray | TCU | OU | 6100 | 29.25 | 6900 | 28.15 |
I've already named two Gators from this rivalry it is about time I show FSU some love. The thing about the Seminoles is under Leonard Hamilton his system makes it tough to predict who will have a big night. Gray is an absolute monster for the Noles and at 6-8, 260 pounds the Noles could probably use him on their football team. Against Indiana, Gray got into foul trouble yet still was able to play 31 minutes, granted the game did go to OT. Gray is averaging 10 ppg and 7.5 rpg. The fouls do scare me especially considering he had trouble defending against TJD but expect this battle down low with Johnson to be a war. |

Juwan Durham | ND | UK | 6000 | 25.58 | 6300 | 24.70 |
Juwan Durham is a great paydown option for teammate Nate Laszewski and shows great value at a $6000 price. He is averaging 25.58 FPPG and if seven is your lucky number he is averaging 7.7 ppg and 7.7 rpg. Another thing I like about Durham's game is that he is a shot blocker averaging 2.3 per game on the young season. |
Olivier Sarr | UK | ND | 5700 | 20.31 | 5400 | 18.65 |
I'm willing to give Kentucky 7-footer Olivier Sarr one more chance. The transfer from Wake Forest has really struggled for the Cats and its especially concerning considering many thought he'd be one of their top players. His scoring average is down from 13.7 ppg to 9.8 and his rebounding from 9 rpg to 5.8. Again, as I wrote in my last Playbook, this guy wa considered the best transfer in the country. Now we get him at a relatively cheap price tag but if he doesnt perform tonight, I'm DONE! |
James Karnik | BC | SYR | 5300 | 19.62 | 5800 | 18.05 |
Last season Karnik averaged 28.4 minutes per game for Lehigh but as a transfer for BC his playing time has dipped through two games at 21.5 mpg. He could see extended minutes in this one as they need a guy with size to battle with Guerrier. Despite the dip in play he is still averaging a respectable 7.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg. Another thing to know is that he missed three of BC's games awaiting his transfer waiver. |
Malik Osborne | FSU | UF | 5000 | 18.75 | 5700 | 17.95 |
Malik Osborne is seventh in scoring for FSU yet he is fifth in mpg with 24 a game through FSU's two games. For $5000 he gives a solid stat line of 5.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Another thing to like is he's averaged four steals a game and you won't have to worry about turnovers as he only has one on the season. |
