Luis Severino shutdown the Tigers today for his ninth win of the year, bringing his record to 9-1. He pitched eight innings and gave up just one earned run while striking out 10. A start of one run or fewer is nothing new for Severino though:

Not a bad list of guys there, to say the least. He lowered his ERA for the year to 2.20. Gleyber Torres, Greg Bird , and Austin Romine each cracked a home run to help provide all the offense Severino would need in this one. For Torres, he is the youngest Yankee to reach 10 home runs since Mickey Mantle, pretty impressive stuff. I did not expect this type of power from him this quickly, especially considering his career high in home runs during his time in the minors was 11.

Split Stats to Know

Split Stats are always important to know, especially for DFS. This portion will focus on who is hitting home runs against lefty and righty pitchers. The first number will be the number that they have hit against that handiness of pitcher, while the number in parenthesis will be their total home runs for the year. The higher the portion of their home runs is against one side, the more important it is. Another key thing to be aware of are guys that hit same sided pitchers (lefty hitting home runs off a lefty and vice versa)

Home runs against left-handed pitchers Home runs against right-handed pitchers
Christian Villanueva – 11 (15) J.D. Martínez – 18 (19)
Giancarlo Stanton – 7 (12) José Ramírez – 15 (18)
Mookie Betts – 6 (17) Mike Trout – 15 (19)
Paul Goldschmidt – 6 (8) Bryce Harper – 14 (18)
Evan Longoria – 6 (10) Edwin Encarnación – 13 (16)
Nomar Mazara – 6 (14) Aaron Judge – 13 (16)
Yangervis Solarte – 6 (12) Manny Machado – 13 (18)
George Springer – 6 (13) Travis Shaw – 13 (13)
Trevor Story – 6 (11)

Ice Cold: Delino DeShields is 0-for-21 in his last six games, Mark Reynolds is 0-for-15 in his last four games, Curtis Granderson is 0-for-13 in his last four games, and Jefry Marte is 0-for-15 in his last seven games.

Burning Questions

Danny Duffy has pitched well in two straight starts, giving up just two earned runs over 13.2 innings pitched; can he keep it going tonight against the Angels?

Zack Godley hasn’t been the pitcher many people anticipated he would be this year; how will he do tonight in San Fran?

Julio Teherán this year has continued his trend of pitching much better on the road than at home; will we see more of the same tonight as he pitches on the road in San Diego?

Stay tuned.
