10 Team League

Sonny Gray , SP CIN – So it’s always a tough start when using a starter in Cincinnati but Gray is having a very solid season regardless of where he has pitched. At home this season he is 6-2 with a 3.39 ERA while striking out 71 over 63.2 innings. He will face a Cardinals lineup that has been better of late with the recent resurgence of Paul Goldschmidt and the return of Marcell Ozuna to the lineup but good pitching tends to beat good hitting and for that reason I am rolling with Gray here in 10 Team formats.

José Quintana , SP CHC – Over his last three games Quintana has been solid, going 2-0 with a 3.06 ERA. In August he has allowed just two runs over 13 innings while striking out 12. His starts this week will come on Tuesday against the Phillies and on Sunday against the Pirates. Both teams he has had success against this season, tossing six shutout innings against the Phillies and posting a 2.70 ERA over three starts against the Pirates.

12 Team League

Aaron Sanchez , SP HOU – A move to an organization that knows how to work with pitchers has seemingly done wonders for Sanchez who has allowed just one run over 11 innings while striking out 12 since joining the Astros. Sanchez, when acquired, was 3-14 on the season but he is 2-0 since the trade from Toronto. His start this week will be on the road against the A’s in the spacious Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Dustin May, SP LAD – May did well in his second career start, allowing just one run while striking out seven over 5.2 innings. He has himself one of the best pitching matchups you can ask for this week as he heads on the road to face the Miami Marlins. Miami ranks towards the bottom of the league in most offensive categories while having one of the highest strikeout rates against RHP at 25.1-percent.

Marco Gonzales , SP SEA – No matter which way you slice it the Tigers are one of the leagues worst offensive teams in baseball, so it shouldn’t really matter much that Gonzalez is a lefty that dominates right-handed hitting or that left-handed bats are the ones that do the damage. In fact, we just saw this matchup a few starts ago for Gonzalez and he tossed seven shutout innings. One note however is that we need to monitor his status on the injury front because he was forced to leave his last start after taking a liner off his body.

15 Team League

Zac Gallen, SP ARI – So, Gallen has two starts this week. The first will be in Coors Field, so let’s fade that one Ok? His second start however is what I am looking at as he has a home start against the Giants to finish out the fantasy week. In his first start as a member of the DBacks, Gallen allowed just one hit over five shutout innings against the Phillies. He was one of the Marlins top pitching prospects at the time of his trade and had pitched well posting a 2.72 ERA over seven starts.

Dinelson Lamet , SP SD – Well, that was impressive wasn’t it? In his last start Lamet tossed seven shutout innings while striking out 12 Seattle Mariners. We know the strikeout upside is here with this kid but this was his first start where the team let him crack the 90 pitch mark as he tossed 104. If the strings are off, he becomes a very interesting play for the remainder of the season because of that strikeout upside. On the year he has 42 over 30 innings and for his career he has 181 over 144.1 innings. His start this week will come against the Phillies who rank 22nd in wOBA against RHP and have a near 23-percent strikeout rate against right-handed pitching as well.
