10 Team League

J.A. Happ , SP NYY – Happ has allowed just two earned runs over his last two starts and has notched quality starts in three straight appearances. It hasn’t been the greatest season for Happ but he is starting to turn things around. His start this upcoming week will be on the road against the White Sox. Happ has been much better away from Yankee Stadium this season, posting a 3.60 ERA over six starts compared to the 5.35 ERA he has at home. The White Sox this season rank 23rd in wOBA and 28th in ISO against left-handed pitching this season.

Brad Peacock , SP HOU – It’s far from a perfect matchup as the Brewers have some serious bats in their lineup, most notably Christian Yelich , however I am interested in Peacock here for the strikeout upside. The Brewers this season have the fourth-highest strikeout rate against RHP at 25.2-percent. Peacock on the year has been solid, going 5-3 with a 3.20 ERA. His 9.32 K/9 against this Brewers lineup should be a great match for him.

12 Team League

Zach Plesac, SP CLE – The kid has looked good since getting called up to the big leagues, allowing just four earned runs over his first three starts while striking out 14 over 19.1 innings. The command has been key to his success as he has allowed just three walks over his three starts. Plesac’s next start will be at home against the Reds for a little interleague play. The Reds this season rank 25th in wOBA and 27th in AVG against RHP.  The Reds 24.6-percent strikeout rate against righties is the eighth-highest in baseball this season.

Julio Teheran , SP ATL – Is anybody paying attention to what Teheran is doing? Over five starts during the month of May Teheran allowed just three runs over 27.2 innings, finishing with a 0.98 ERA. He has made two starts during the month of June so far and has yet to allow an earned run over 11 innings while striking out 11. His start this week will be at home against the Pirates. Pittsburgh ranks 16th in wOBA and 24th in ISO against RHP this season. At home this year Teheran has been lights out, allowing six runs over 28 innings for a 1.93 ERA over five starts.

Nick Pivetta , SP PHI – So it looks like the demotion to the minors allowed Pivetta to work some things out as he has impressed since being recalled, allowing just four runs over 20 innings while striking out 21. Pivetta tossed a complete game on Saturday, striking out six against the Reds. Many were high on Pivetta coming into the season but his dreadful start saw him get an early demotion. His start this week will be on the road against the Atlanta Braves who boast a solid offense but are much better against southpaws than right-handed pitching this season.

15 Team League

Adrian Sampson , SP TEX – I recommended Sampson on Saturday night in DFS and he went on to toss a complete game against the A’s in which he allowed one earned run. He has now allowed just one earned run in four of his last five starts. The strikeout numbers are starting to tick up as well. What I like about Sampson is that the peripheral stats suggest his recent performances are no fluke. He will have another test this upcoming week as the Rangers are on the road to face the Boston Red Sox. Most will likely avoid using Sampson but his recent form plus the Red Sox struggles make him an interesting deep league add.

Dakota Hudson , SP STL – Hudson made this article last week and his ownership barely moved. All he did in his last start was allow one earned run over 6.1 innings while striking out three. Given that he is still likely floating around the waiver wire I am game to give him another go this week as well when the Cards face off against the Miami Marlins. The Marlins of course have one of the leagues worst offenses, ranking 29th in wOBA and 30th in ISO against RHP this season while striking out in 25-percent of their at bats.
