Top Stack

Seattle Mariners vs Andrew Cashner

Stacking against Andrew Cashner is always a favorite play of mine as the O’s starter has a 4.72 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP on the season. Tonight we get to use a Mariners team that ranks fifth in team batting average and 11th in team OPS against right-handed pitching this season.  Mariners top hitters in Nelson Cruz , Jean Segura and Kyle Seager all have strong BvP stats against Cashner as well and make for the top options tonight.

Top Option: Nelson Cruz , Jean Segura , Dee Gordon , Mitch Haniger

Secondary Option: Kyle Seager , Denard Span , Mike Zunino

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Dan Straily

Straily has been getting shelled of late, allowing 11 earned runs on 16 hits over 10 innings (three starts).  He has allowed five home runs over that stretch including two home runs in each of his last two starts.  The DBacks offense is starting to pick up thanks to Paul Goldschmidt who is tearing it up right now and is a must play tonight in my opinion, even as a one off if not using a DBacks stack.  Straily was fortunate to allow just one run in an early start against the Diamondbacks as he walked five during that outing.  Left-handed bats have a .284 average and an OPS of .909 this season against Straily which puts Jake Lamb , Daniel Descalso , Ketel Marte and David Peralta all in play tonight as part of a stack.

Top Option: Paul Goldschmidt , Daniel Descalso , David Peralta , Jake Lamb

Secondary Option: Ketel Marte , Álex Ávila

Houston Astros vs J.A. Happ

The Astros offense is back to ranking among the leagues best offenses against left-handed pitching.  On Monday they draw a matchup against Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ who is one of the higher priced pitching options.  Happ has again been a very solid pitching this season, going 9-3 with a 3.56 ERA while striking out 102 over 91 innings.  Given Happ’s season we may get the Astros offense as lower than usual ownership despite their ability to be the highest scoring offense of the slate.  George Springer , José Altuve , Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman should be part of most stacks with Evan Gattis , Max Stassi , Yuli Gurriel and Marwin González falling a bit under the radar.

Top Option: José Altuve , George Springer , Carlos Correa , Alex Bregman

Secondary Option: Evan Gattis , Yuli Gurriel , Max Stassi , Marwin González

Contrarian Stack

Miami Marlins vs Shelby Miller

I had to do a double-take when I saw the name Shelby Miller as a probable starter today. He is making his return to the majors after undergoing Tommy John surgery.  Over four starts at the minor league level this season Miller allowed 10 runs on 20 hits over 19.1 innings for a 4.66 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP.  If we want to go back over Miller’s last three seasons he has allowed a .287 average and an OPS of .815 against left-handed hitters which makes a few players on the Marlins roster worth targeting today.

Top Option: Derek Dietrich , Justin Bour , J.T. Realmuto

Secondary Option: Starlin Castro , Brian Anderson , J.T. Riddle
