Philadelphia Phillies vs Andrew Cashner

There is no staff in baseball I love stacking against more than the Baltimore Orioles. This is a team that not only has Chris Tillman but also will be sending Andrew Cashner to the mound this afternoon. There is no doubt that Cashner was once a talented pitcher but that is no longer the case. Cashner is 1-4 with a 4.84 ERA this season. He boasts a 5.75 fip, 4.89 xFIP and a 4.75 SIERA which prove how trash he has been this year. Lefties this season have an OPS of .909 vs Cashner so the likes of César Hernández , Odubel Herrera , Carlos Santana and Nick Williams are worth targeting in your stacks. Both Hernandez and Herrera have had solid success against Cashner over their career with Hernandez going 5-for-11 with a triple and four walks while Herrera is 6-for-14 with two home runs. Rhys Hoskins and Maikel Franco will also be solid options as Cashner doesn’t have a dominating split stat against hitters.

Texas Rangers vs Christian Bergman

The Mariners are promoting Bergman from Triple-A to make a spot start. Bergman has not been a good pitcher at the major league level during his career, going 11-14 with a 5.58 ERA over 68 games (23 starts). His early career was with the Rockies so some of his higher ERA’s make some sense given the Coors Field effect but last season in 13 games (8 starts) for the Mariners he was 4-5 with a 5.00 ERA. Bergman was equally as bad against both right and left-handed hitters last season which means the entire Rangers lineup is pretty much in play. I will be looking at the top of the order with Delino DeShields , Shin-Soo Choo , Jurickson Profar , Nomar Mazara and Joey Gallo . Any three-man combo of those players are all worth considering.

Low Owned Stacks

Cleveland Indians vs Ryan Carpenter

The Indians offense is starting to heat up with José Ramírez hitting .375 with three home runs and seven RBI over the last week. Francisco Lindor is hitting .500 with three home runs and five RBI over the last week as well. Indians catcher Yan Gomes may fly under the radar today but against lefties this season he is hitting .325 with an OPS of .950.  Brandon Guyer is a nice punt play today as he has an OPS of .836 against southpaws this season and his sole reason for likely being on a major league roster is because of his .857 OPS against lefties over the last three years.

Pittsburg Pirates vs Héctor Santiago

As a team the Pirates rank first in team OPS and fourth in team batting average against southpaws this season. The White Sox are sending lefty Héctor Santiago and his 5.60 ERA to the mound against the Pirates today.  Santiago backs up his 5.60 ERA with a 5.68 FIP, 5.93 xFIP and 5.00 SIERA….so yeah not great. The Pirates will be without Starling Marte today and for that reason I think they go a bit overlooked as they are without their top hitter, but Jose Osuna , David Freese , Sean Rodríguez and Max Moroff make for a nice cheap stack option as the average cost of those four players on DK is just $3,050. That type of value will help you pay up for pitching or make it easier to pair them with a higher cost stack like the Phillies.
