Play Against the Fantasy Alarm Team!

After a long, successful debut season of DFS baseball on Boom Fantasy, we’re switching gears to FOOTBALL! Everyone’s favorite fantasy sport! From here on out we’re going to be touching base on the Monday Night Football game each week. So without further ado…let’s dive into it! BUT WAIT...follow this link and play against our staff here at Fantasy Alarm → BOOM BABY!

QB’s

The first question opens up and asks who will throw more TD’s between Matthew Stafford and Eli Manning and quite frankly, this may not be too difficult to figure out. Stafford was the top scoring fantasy QB just last week and although he definitely has the tougher matchup, he threw more touchdowns (4) than the Giants offense had total points (3). That said, if Odell Beckham Jr. does in fact play, this could be a lot closer than expected and I personally wouldn’t mind taking the risk with Manning if he gets his main man back.

RB’s

Moving on to rushing yards for question two, so close your eyes, this is ugly. Ameer Abdullah is the favorite by a pretty wide margin over Paul Perkins, Dwayne Washington and Orleans Darkwa. Abdullah is the only one of the bunch that received more than seven carries in Week 1. The Lions were very clear that they wanted to establish the run with him, even though he only totaled 30 yards. In my personal opinion, Orleans Darkwa is a sleeper here. Paul Perkins was completely ineffective in Week 1 and Darkwa saw a few carries here and there. If Perkins doesn’t get anything going early on, don’t be surprised if Ben McAdoo calls on Darkwa’s number more often than Perkins’.

Receptions

Odell Beckham Jr. playing versus not playing changes this whole question around. If he plays, he’s the odds on favorite and we should expect Eli Manning to feed him the ball at a record pace after how bad they looked without him in Week 1. That said, Evan Engram saw five targets without OBJ last week and looks as if he’s carved out a nice little rapport with Eli, one of the lone bright spots from Week 1. He’s a sleeper if Beckham doesn’t play. On the other side, Marvin Jones is favorited slightly over Kenny Golladay which I find mighty interesting. Jones saw just two targets to Golladay’s seven and if they’re in the red zone, Golladay’s massive frame and athleticism is going to be relied upon heavily. If OBJ is out, don’t sleep on the rookies in this one. Especially when you consider Marvin Jones will likely be matched up with Janoris Jenkins in this one and that’s never a fun time.

We stick with the receptions theme for Question 4, Shane Vereen checks in as Boom’s favorite and is followed by Theo Riddick, Eric Ebron and Roger Lewis. Vereen led this bunch in targets and when healthy has proven his worth out of the backfield in the passing game. Manning relies on him and if OBJ is ruled out, we should expect another game where he approaches 10 targets or so. Riddick, just like Vereen, has carved out a nice role in Detroit. He carries the rock sparingly but is involved heavily in the pass game. He’s always a threat for a big receiving game and could be relied on even more today if the Giants tough secondary locks down Matt Stafford’s options on the outside. Eric Ebron is actually in a great spot to take down the question. The Giants linebackers have an issue with guarding tight ends and Ebron is extremely skilled. The seem might be there all game for Mr. Stafford, which opens the door for a big night for Ebron. Lewis is a long shot if I’ve ever seen one, but if Beckham doesn’t play and Brandon Marshall is once again ineffective, his number will be called on. If OBJ plays, Lewis shouldn’t even be considered.

Touchdowns

They really made it tough for us with Question five. We’re totally unsure about almost all of the options getting into the end zone. TJ Jones is actually the favorite, yet he’s caught one TD pass in three seasons. Brandon Marshall might be the actual pick here simply based off resume, but he looked like he didn’t belong on an NFL field after Week 1. Dwayne Washington is a bruiser at 220 LBS and could see some goal line work, but he’s only scored one in his career, just like Jones. Last but definitely least, Rhett Ellison is much more a blocker than he is a pass catcher. He saw just one target with OBJ off the field, if he’s on I can’t see how he plays a role.

NFL/MLB Hybrid

Next we have a NFL/MLB hybrid question asking us which will have the most of; field goals or total bases. Of course this question may be moot if Jose PIrela doesn’t end up playing, which he hasn’t for three straight games. The Lions offense likely won’t move the ball quite like they did last week against the Cardinals this week, but Prater has a big leg and if they just get the ball across the 50 they’re basically in his range. Aldrich Rosas had a strong preseason and made his lone FG in Week 1. He could be sneaky if OBJ is back because he’ll allow the Giants offense so much more room to operate and help them move the ball. Paul Goldschmidt being the third favorite here is ludicrous, especially after you realize he’s 8-for-17 for 3 HR and 1 2B against Luis Perdomo. I’d personally avoid Pirela coming off an injury, even if he plays.

Receiving Yards

For the final two questions, just like during baseball season, we get questions with just one player. We’re asked how many receiving yards will Sterling Shepard and Golden Tate get. Shepard saw eight targets in Week 1, which was second on the team, but his seven catches only tailed 44 yards. He does a lot of the underneath and over the middle work for the Giants, so it’s not likely he has many big receiving yard performances. Golden Tate on the other hand is a PPR machine but he also eats up yardage. His small frame allows him to slip out of tackles and scoot up the field and near 100 yards now that he’s the man in Detroit. It’s likely he’s shadowed by Dominique Rogers-Cromartie this week, which isn’t an easy assignment, but he’s talented enough to shake free ad possibly eclipse the 100-yard plateau again this week.
