Top Guards

Myles Powell - Seton Hall ($8,400 DK / $7,300 FD)

Whenever Seton Hall is on the DFS CBB slate, we need to be considering Myles Powell as one of the best overall plays in all formats. Lately, though, the senior guard is more of a GPP option because sometimes he won’t live up to his expensive price tags. Over the last ten games, he’s “only” averaging 31 DK points per outing and he’s gone under that mark four different times during this span. However, he’s always a threat to get hot shooting-wise and put up 40-50 DK points as the highest overall DFS scorer on any slate. Although he’s at home tonight, the home/road splits actually point in the other direction. Powell is averaging nearly 10 more DK points and six more real points on the road than at home this year - and he didn’t return value against Villanova earlier this season when he had 27 DK points and 19 points scored. All of those stats is why we should classify him as a GPP play on this slate - but the upside is obviously there for him to win your tournaments. Powell’s price differential between DFS sites is also notable tonight as he’s a much better value on FanDuel with the $1,100 discount than on DraftKings.

Anthony Edwards - Georgia ($8,300 DK / $7,500 FD)

Georgia’s true freshman will likely be a top five pick in the upcoming NBA Draft and he’s been playing right up to that potential lately. Over the last ten games, Anthony Edwards is averaging 41 DK points, 22 real points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.7 blocks/steals per outing and he’s put up 58 and 40 DK points in the past two games, respectively. The Bulldogs are all but eliminated from an NCAA Tournament berth but that hasn’t stopped Edwards from padding his own stats and building his case to be the #1 overall pick. His 32% shots share during conference play is the second-highest in the SEC and leads the team by a significant margin. When he faced Florida earlier this season, Edwards put up 52 DK points with his 32 points scored and plenty of other ancillary stats. Win or lose, we can expect Edwards to get his shots up and put up numbers to make him a very solid cash and GPP play on this slate.

Marcus Zegarowski - Creighton ($7,400 DK / $6,600 FD)

This Creighton-Georgetown matchup is one we definitely want to target for our lineups because it features two quick tempo teams and the Bluejays, specifically, are projected to score the most points on this slate. Creighton’s trio of guards are in play tonight as Ty-Shon Alexander ($7,700 DK / $6,900 FD) and Mitch Ballock ($6,800 DK / $6,200 FD) are worth consideration with Marcus Zegarowski. However, it’s Zegarowski who provides a higher DFS floor with his ancillary stats as the lead point guard. When Creighton faced Georgetown earlier this season, Zegarowski put up 40 DK points with his 20 points scored, seven assists, three steals and going 6-for-11 from three-point range. The sophomore’s ability to shoot from deep should give him more upside tonight as well. The Hoyas are the Big East’s worst team at defending the three-pointer and Zegarowski is shooting 41% from the perimeter during conference play - the sixth-best mark in the conference. He’s a solid cash game play on this slate if you want to pay down a little in the high-end range of guards.

Isaiah Joe - Arkansas ($6,800 DK / $5,000 FD)

The Razorbacks’ sophomore wing recently missed five games with a knee injury but he’s wasted no time returning to his offensive role since he’s been back. In his three games back, Isaiah Joe is averaging 23 real points and 34 DK points per outing while taking double-digit shots and scoring 20+ in all three. There’s no question that Arkansas is much better when Joe is healthy and the offense is back to revolving around his and Mason Jones’ scoring abilities as they make a push towards an NCAA Tournament bid. Jones ($8,700 DK / $8,100 FD) is also in play tonight in what should be a fast-paced, high-scoring game with LSU - but Joe is more of a bargain at his salaries that have not yet caught up to his production, especially on FD where he’s basically a free square. Joe owns a 27% shots share during conference play, which is the seventh-highest mark in the SEC and a close second to Jones for Arkansas. Based on his recent production, he’s a bit underpriced for what he should cost - and we should take advantage in a game that we want shares of both teams.

Marlon Taylor - LSU ($4,400 DK / $4,000 FD)

It’s been a revolving door lately as to which LSU bench player is worthy of being a legit value play - and right now it’s Marlon Taylor. The senior wing had emerged as the Tigers’ main sixth-man this season while Charles Manning was sidelined, and he’s right back to that key role in the rotation with Manning now out for the next four weeks. Furthermore, Taylor actually moved into the starting lineup for the first time on Saturday and played a season-high 36 minutes in place of regular starter Emmitt Williams. In that game, he put up 14.5 DK points with seven points scored, four rebounds and a steal. When he was being used as the first option off the bench before Manning’s return, he was regularly putting up 15-20 DK points with the upside for more. Taylor doesn’t offer much offensive upside, but he should continue to see big minutes for LSU because of his defensive versatility that the coaching staff clearly favors right now.

Edric Dennis Jr. - TCU ($4,400 DK / $4,100 FD)

TCU has a couple injury situations in the backcourt that could make Edric Dennis a value play for a third straight game. Both RJ Nembhard (groin) and Francisco Farabello (concussion) are game-time decisions tonight after travelling with the team to Kansas and sitting out the past two outings. In their absences, it’s been Dennis who’s started the last two games and logged season-high’s in minutes with 35 and 32 minutes in those games, respectively. With that extended playing time, the senior consequently put up at least 20 DK points in both games with solid production across all stat categories. It remains to be seen whether either Nembhard or Farbello will be active tonight, but Dennis would be a premium value if he gets another start or increased minutes if one or both is out. Be sure to stay tuned to my Twitter account for injury updates ahead of this 8 pm ET tip.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • Fatts Russell - Rhode Island ($8,500 DK / $7,800 FD)

  • Skylar Mays - LSU ($8,000 DK / $7,400 FD)

  • Kamar Baldwin - Butler ($7,900 DK / $7,000 FD)

  • Jahvon Blair - Georgetown ($6,100 DK / $6,000 FD)

  • Desi Sills - Arkansas ($5,200 DK / $4,700 FD)

  • Greg Williams Jr. - St. John’s ($4,900 DK / $4,400 FD)

  • Rob Phinisee - Indiana ($4,700 DK / $4,300 FD)

Top Forwards

Daniel Oturu - Minnesota ($9,200 DK / $8,800 FD)

Minnesota’s stud center doesn’t receive the national praise of his conference foe Luka Garza of Iowa, but Daniel Oturu has been almost as good in terms of DFS value and he deserves to be considered in all formats despite these expensive price tags. Oturu is averaging 40 DK points, 20 real points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game over the last ten outings and he’s recorded a double-double in six of the last seven. Over the past three games, in particular, the sophomore has averaged 47 DK points, 25.3 real points and 11.7 rebounds as he’s been a beast on both ends of the floor. Although Indiana is a solid rebounding team, we should expect more of the same from Oturu - and his home/road splits actual favor him on the road tonight. In away games this season, he’s averaging seven more DK points and four more real points per game than at home - and he put up a double-double with 39 DK points when he faced Indiana earlier this year. If you have the salary to fit him in, Oturu should be highly considered in cash and GPP.

Obi Toppin - Dayton ($8,600 DK / $8,200 FD)

One of the most dominant college basketball players in the country is once again one of the top forwards on tonight’s slate. Obi Toppin is always in play because of his pure talent that’s allowed him to average 20.4 real points, eight rebounds, two blocks/steals and 37 DK points over the last ten games. He becomes even more attractive in this matchup against Rhode Island because the Rams play at the fastest tempo in the Atlantic 10 and they gave up 81 points to Dayton in this season’s earlier matchup. Toppin put up 39 DK points in that first meeting, with a dominant 22 points scored and 10 rebounds. The sophomore big man will likely have the ball in his hands even more than usual tonight because of what the game means to both teams in action. Rhode Island is on the Tournament bubble and a win over a Top 10 team like Dayton is a huge resume-booster. Meanwhile, the Flyers are undefeated in conference play so far and you can bet they want to win their final two games to cement those bragging rights and lock themselves into a 1-seed for March Madness. We should expect the best from Toppin tonight and he’s a safe cash and GPP play on both sites.

Sandro Mamukelashvili - Seton Hall ($6,500 DK / $6,300 FD)

Ever since he returned from injury at the beginning of February, Sandro Mamukelashvili has become a major part of Seton Hall’s offense and the Pirates are legit Final Four contenders with him back healthy. Over the last three games, the junior big man is averaging 36 DK points, 19 real points and 8.3 rebounds while logging at least 33 minutes in each. His size and scoring/rebounding in the paint will be needed even more tonight against a Villanova squad with a trio of talented forwards. When Mamukelashvilli faced ‘Nova earlier this year, he put up 33 DK points with 17 points scored, eight boards and two blocks on double-digit shot attempts. We should expect a similar type game with upside for more considering how hot he’s running in the past couple weeks.

Marcellus Earlington - St. John’s ($5,300 DK / $5,100 FD)

The recent season-ending injury to Mustapha Heron opened up more playing time and role for Marcellus Earlington lately - and he could be in line for even more production with St. John’s dealing with another injury. Starting center Josh Roberts is questionable to play tonight after injuring his shoulder just one minute into Sunday’s game. Interestingly enough, Earlington actually started that game over Roberts for the first time all season - but he played just 10 minutes and put up eight DK points with St. John’s rolling with smaller lineups and hot hands vs. Creighton. Some people may stay away from the sophomore after his dud outing, but we can look at him as an attractive low-owned option tonight - especially if Roberts is out or limited. In the five games prior, Earlington averaged 28 DK points per game as he carved out a nice bench scoring role in Heron’s absence. St. John’s will likely need his size and length more tonight against Butler, who boasts a few talented forwards.

Isaiah Ihnen - Minnesota ($4,200 DK / $3,600 FD)

Although he only played a handful of minutes before the calendar turned to February, Isaiah Ihnen has carved out a legit bench role for Minnesota lately and he’s a notable value considering his recent production. Over the last couple weeks, the freshman’s minutes have slowly ramped up and on Sunday he logged a season-high 24 minutes - which resulted in 18 DK points with six points scored and 10 rebounds. It was his second straight game with 18 or more DK points and he’s now averaging 18 DK points over his last four games. During this span, Ihnen has been Minnesota’s first option off the bench while being one of their most active three-point shooters and solid rebounder at 6-foot-9. It’s clear that Ihnen will continue to play a big reserve role for the Gophers as the regular season wraps up and the team fights for a potential NCAA Tournament bid.

David McCormack - Kansas ($4,100 DK / $4,200 FD)

One key injury to monitor tonight centers around Kansas’ frontcourt and it could result in David McCormack being an elite value. Jayhawks’ stud center Udoka Azubuike is a big question mark to play after he sprained his ankle over the weekend and practiced in limited fashion on Tuesday. Azubuike himself has said publicly that he will do everything he can to play because it’s his Senior Night and final home game, but it sounds like that might be only a few minutes of action. Kansas cannot afford to have Azubuike re-injure his ankle because they need him healthy for the NCAA Tournament and a legit chance at the title. For that reason, we should expect McCormack to play a lot tonight - even if he comes off the bench if/when Azubuike starts as a formality. McCormack actually started a bunch of games earlier this season before being relegated to the bench for most of the last month. When Azubuike left Saturday’s game early, we saw McCormack log his most minutes (20) since Jan. 18 and he put up 19 DK points in the extended playing time. Getting that production at his salaries tonight would make him a huge value - especially against a TCU defense that allows most of their opposing points to the inside.
