Top Guards

Tyrese Haliburton - Iowa State ($9,200 DK / $8,400 FD)

Admittedly, this slate doesn’t have as many top-tier guards worth paying up for like most days. Even so, the most expensive guy at the position is no slouch as Iowa State’s do-everything point guard has the potential to be the slate’s highest-scoring DFS player if he hits his ceiling. Tyrese Haliburton is a legit triple-double threat - something he did earlier this month - and his floor is pretty high because of his consistent ability to rack up stats in every category. The sophomore has put up at least 34 DK points in eight of the last ten games and he’s averaging 38.7 DK points over that span. Obviously you have to shell out a ton of salary to roster him, but Haliburton can easily return value in what will be a fast-paced game between two quick-tempo teams in Auburn and Iowa State. He strives in these up-and-down matchups as he likes to push the pace running the Cyclones’ point and he should be a safe cash game play today.

Nick Weatherspoon - Mississippi State ($6,400 DK / $6,500 FD)

Ever since Weatherspoon joined the team in mid-December after being suspended for the first part of the season, he’s been Mississippi State’s main ball-handler and has mostly outperformed his DFS salaries to this point. The junior has now started every game he’s been active and immediately stepped into being the lead point guard - forming a nice 1-2 offensive punch with big man Reggie Perry. He’s put up at least 30 DK points in three of the last four games as his price tag on both sites slowly begins to rise. We can still get him at value right now, though, before he likely eventually reaches the 7k mark. Since he’s returned to the Bulldogs’ lineup, Weatherspoon has high usage and shot rates and he owns the fourth-best assist rate in the SEC. He’ll have a pace-up matchup against Oklahoma, who play much faster than Mississippi State - something that will definitely benefit him as the point guard running the offense.

Andrew Platek - North Carolina ($4,300 DK / $4,200 FD)

North Carolina’s backcourt has been a minefield this season as the Heels deal with a ton of injuries to the guard position and the team itself is in the midst of a five-game losing streak. Star point guard Cole Anthony is still out, starter Brandon Robinson missed Wednesday’s game due to injuries he suffered in a car accident, and Anthony Harris is out for the year with a torn ACL. All these injuries have made Andrew Platek a solid DFS value by default as he’s been playing a ton of minutes with not much depth behind him. The junior has now started the last three games at shooting guard and he put up 30.5, 9.25 and 19.75 DK points in those starts, respectively. Robinson is still questionable to play as he practiced for the first time on Friday, but if he’s out then Platek will get all the playing time he can handle once again - which gives him a solid DFS floor even if he’s not a huge offensive threat. Even if Robinson plays, Platek was already a starter with him in the lineup and he should return enough value at these cheap price tags.

Marlon Taylor - LSU ($4,200 DK / $4,400 FD)

Judging by Taylor’s last two games, he should be pretty popular on this slate with a very affordable price tag. The junior was a regular starter last season for LSU, but had been seldom used off the bench this season after missing the first part of the year rehabbing from foot surgery. Over the last two games, though, more playing time has now opened up for Taylor with Charles Manning Jr. out indefinitely. He’s played 32 and 28 minutes off the bench in these past two outings and put up at least 26 DK points in both. As long as Manning remains out for the Tigers, we should expect Taylor to be in the sixth-man role moving forward and he’s a very good value play until his salary rises above 5k. While he’s scored in double figures in both these past two games, Taylor’s floor is solid because of his rebounding and defensive stats.

Devan Cambridge - Auburn ($3,900 DK / $3,900 FD)

Who wants to take a chance on a guy who just had his breakout game? That’s Devan Cambridge in a nutshell as he’s coming off a career-night on Wednesday that saw him go 6-for-9 from three-point range for a career-high 26 points and 35 DK points. The freshman hadn’t played more than 10 minutes in a game during SEC play - and the most he played this season was 16 minutes in a blowout win - so it’s tough to project what his role will be in Auburn’s rotation moving forward. Give credit to coach Bruce Pearl, though, for riding the hot hand and keeping Cambridge out there for 21 minutes as he was nearly lights-out from deep. Still, he’s only a GPP flier because there’s no guarantee how much Cambridge will play today or the next game as he’s usually buried on the depth chart. However, there’s a chance he remains hot from three-point range once he checks into today’s game and the Tigers will have to keep him out there if he does. Plus, the matchup vs. Iowa State actually favors his skillset as the Cyclones’ defense gives up a ton of opposing points via the three-pointer. Play with caution - but it could pay off big time at these very cheap price tags on both sites.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • Skylar Mays - LSU ($7,800 DK / $6,800 FD)

  • Ayo Dosunmu - Illinois ($7,300 DK / $6,600 FD)

  • Rasheem Dunn - St. John’s ($6,400 DK / $5,800 FD)

  • Franz Wagner - Michigan ($5,700 DK / $5,500 FD)

  • Leaky Black - North Carolina ($5,600 DK / $5,100 FD)

  • David Johnson - Louisville ($4,500 DK / $4,500 FD)

Top Forwards

Reggie Perry - Mississippi State ($8,900 DK / $8,300 FD)

The strength of today’s slate is clearly at the forward position with a ton of expensive options who can all anchor your lineups in cash and tournaments. Let’s start with Reggie Perry, who has been a DFS beast lately and gets a favorable matchup in this non-conference game. Mississippi State’s big man is coming off back-to-back performances of 51 DK points and he’s had five 20-point double-doubles in the last seven games. He’s been dominating SEC opponents down low over this stretch - and now he gets an advantageous matchup vs. Big 12 opponent Oklahoma tonight. The Sooners are the worst offensive rebounding team in their conference and they don’t have anyone who can realistically guard Perry on defense - OU’s power forward Kristian Doolittle is three inches shorter and center Brady Manek is a wiry 6-foot-9. Opposing big men have had no problem doing damage against Oklahoma - including big statistical games by Kansas’ Udoka Azubuike, Texas’ Jericho Sims and Baylor’s Freddie Gillespie - and Perry should follow suit with yet another dominant double-double.

Garrison Brooks - North Carolina ($8,500 DK / $7,500 FD)

Although North Carolina is losing a ton of games right now and dealing with a bunch of injuries at guard, Garrison Brooks has had no problem putting up big statistical performances. The Tar Heels’ setbacks in the backcourt have resulted in a lot more offensive usage and shot volume for Brooks and Armando Bacot down low. On Wednesday vs. Virginia Tech, Brooks put up 53 DK points thanks to his 28 points scored, 13 rebounds and six assists on a team-high 32% usage rate. The junior big man has now recorded a double-double in six straight games and he’s averaging 40.6 DK points over this span. Brooks should have a big advantage in the post today against Miami, who is one of the worst rebounding teams in the country and allow a ton of opposing points inside with a small frontcourt. He just took advantage of a similar matchup last time out vs. VT and we should expect another 35-45 DK point performance as the offense runs mainly through him.

Kofi Cockburn - Illinois ($8,300 DK / $6,700 FD)

If you’re looking for a third expensive forward to either stack up with Perry and/or Brooks or pivot away from them, Illinois’ center is in a great spot today. Kofi Cockburn will face a Michigan defense that’s one of the worst rebounding teams in the Big Ten and allows a ton of points inside to opposing big men. When the Illini freshman faced Michigan earlier this season, he exploited that weakness en route to a massive performance. Cockburn had 19 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and 42 DK points in this matchup back in December - and Michigan’s defense is arguably worse now that Isaiah Livers remains out. In the Wolverines’ last five conference games, they allowed big games to nearly every opposing big they’ve faced and Cockburn will be ready to likely duplicate his last outing against this defense. Plus, the true 7-footer is coming off an impressive game vs. Purdue when he had 22 points, 15 boards, three blocks and 48 DK points on Tuesday.

Brandon Johns - Michigan ($4,300 DK / $4,400 FD)

As long as Isaiah Livers remains out for Michigan, Brandon Johns continues to be a solid value play with an increase in playing time and role. Johns has now started the last six games with Livers sidelined and he’s usually doing just enough to return value at his cheap price tags. The sophomore had yet to put up 20 DK points in his new starter role until Wednesday vs. Penn State when he had 23 DK points thanks to his 14 points scored and seven rebounds. Usually, though, Johns doesn’t provide much offensive upside and instead does the little things to return value as a rebounder and with ancillary stats. Livers is questionable for today but he will likely sit again as we haven’t seen any improvement on his practice status. Thus, Johns remains a value until Livers returns to the starting lineup.

Kai Jones - Texas ($3,900 DK / $3,600 FD)

One of the best value plays today comes from the Texas frontcourt - but not from a player we’ve suggested in the past. Kamaka Hepa had been the cheap option for the Longhorns lately, but he’s already been ruled out today with an ankle injury. Plus, backup forward Gerald Liddell will also be out with a back injury. This leaves Kai Jones to likely start in Hepa’s place and play a ton of minutes either way. The 6-foot-11 freshman has been logging 10-20 minutes off the bench during conference play and he should be a near-lock DFS play today with the big increase in playing time - even in a tougher matchup vs. LSU. The Tigers are a good rebounding team this season, but Jones has a two-inch height advantage over their tallest frontcourt player and he should grab enough rebounds in a pace-up matchup to return value.
