Top Guards

Markus Howard - Marquette ($9,200 DK / $8,600 FD)

Here we go again, another DFS CBB slate and Markus Howard is the headliner and price king on both sites. The Marquette point guard is finally priced above 9k on DraftKings tonight, but the price increase is certainly warranted considering his red-hot play of late. Howard just exploded for 42 points scored and 51.5 DK points against Georgetown on Saturday, and he’s averaging 29.7 actual points and 42 DK points over the last ten games. Some people may shy away from him now that he’s getting more expensive on both sites, but it’s going to be hard to fade him tonight in a fast-paced matchup vs. St. John’s where there will be tons of scoring on both ends. Howard’s DFS floor and ceiling are both consistently very high because of his elite 42% shots share and 38% usage rate in Marquette’s offense, marks that are first and second among all college basketball players, respectively. Plus, Howard will benefit from playing at home tonight where he’s averaging eight more DK points per outing. He’s a near-automatic play in all formats tonight even at these expensive salaries.

Ashton Hagans - Kentucky ($8,000 DK / $7,100 FD)

If you’re looking for a sure-thing from the guard position tonight, it doesn’t get much safer than Ashton Hagans. The Kentucky point guard has put up 32 or more DK points in eight of the last ten games, including 32.5 DK points against Georgia earlier this season. He doesn’t have a ton of slate-breaking upside like Howard, but his DFS floor is consistently high enough because of his huge involvement in the Wildcats’ offense as the floor general. Over the last four games, Hagans is averaging a very balanced stat line of 13.5 points, 6.8 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game with double-digit shot attempts in each outing. For cash games, you can safely roll out Hagans and expect at least 30 DFS points to anchor your lineup.

Anthony Edwards - Georgia ($7,800 DK / $7,000 FD)

Admittedly, Anthony Edwards has mostly underwhelmed in DFS this season considering he’ll likely be a top five pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. Still, Georgia’s best player has a solid DFS floor because of his high involvement in the offense, and he has the nightly potential to outperform his price tag on both sites. During conference play, the Bulldogs have started to put the ball in Edwards’ hands a ton and allowing him to work on offense. In four SEC games so far, the freshman is first in the conference in usage rate (35%) and second in shots share (37%) while averaging 21.5 points per game. When Georgia faced Kentucky a couple weeks ago, Edwards put up 33 DK points and 23 actual points on a team-high 32% usage. Although the Dawgs lost by nine that day, it was clear that they were going to live and die through Edwards handling the ball, which should be the case again tonight.

Immanuel Quickley - Kentucky ($6,400 DK / $6,600 FD)

We are finally starting to see Quickley’s salaries rise to match his production, but he’s still a value considering his current role in the UK offense. Since conference play began, Quickley has arguably been the Wildcats’ best player as he’s taken on more scoring responsibilities and is playing big minutes in a short guard rotation. In five SEC games thus far, the freshman is averaging 18 points scored and 31.8 DK points while playing at least 33 minutes in each outing. On Saturday vs. Arkansas, Quickley cracked the starting rotation for the first time in a month, but he’s been basically getting starter-level playing time despite usually coming off the bench. He put up 30 DK points in 34 minutes when Kentucky faced Georgia earlier this season, and it’s not out of the question to expect that type of production once again as Coach Cal will likely use Quickley more in three-guard lineups against the smaller Bulldogs team.

Jordan Goldwire - Duke ($4,700 DK / $5,300 FD)

With Wendell Moore still out for Duke, Goldwire should continue to start and he remains a value because of his increase in playing time and role. The junior has now started the last three games with Moore out of the lineup and he’s averaging 21.6 DK points in these starts. Goldwire won’t provide much offensive upside for Duke, but he does the little things all over the court that Coach K clearly likes having in the lineup to complement Tre Jones, Cassius Stanley, and Vernon Carey. Those little things result in a bunch of ancillary stats in extended minutes that allow him to be viable in DFS. He’s a better value on DK tonight with a price tag still under 5k, but he’s also an option on FD despite the small price increase.

Isaiah Moss - Kansas ($4,600 DK / $4,000 FD)

Two games ago, Moss was the slam-dunk value play of the slate because he stepped into a starting role with Devon Dotson out, and calmly put up 29.5 DK points with 20 actual points scored. On Saturday, Moss moved back to the bench with Dotson back, but he still played 32 minutes as Kansas opted to roll with a smaller lineup for most of the game. Coach Bill Self has said publicly that David McCormack will continue to start over Moss going forward, but that his sixth-man will be on the court a lot as he’s one of the best players on the team. The Iowa transfer has now seen his price tag rise on DK, but he’s still a huge value on FD if he’s playing close to 30 minutes in the foreseeable future.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • LJ Figueroa - St. John’s ($8,500 DK / $7,500 FD)
  • Tyrese Haliburton - Iowa State ($8,100 FD Only)
  • Skylar Mays - LSU ($7,600 DK / $6,500 FD)
  • Kamar Baldwin - Butler ($7,300 DK / $6,600 FD)
  • Cassius Stanley - Duke ($5,700 DK / $6,100 FD)
  • Nojel Eastern - Purdue ($4,900 DK / $4,300 FD)

Top Forwards

Jalen Smith - Maryland ($8,300 DK / $7,400 FD)

DFS players know all too well about Anthony Cowan’s struggles lately, but Maryland’s big man has been very solid lately and he should have a big matchup advantage tonight. Jalen Smith is coming off a Saturday performance of 42 DK points against Purdue when he had 18 points scored, 10 rebounds, and four blocks. It was the third time he put up 42 or more DK points with a double-double and at least three blocks against Big Ten opponents this season, and he could easily do it again tonight. Northwestern is one of the worst rebounding teams in the conference and although they do have size in the frontcourt, Smith has shown he can compete with the best big men in the Big Ten. The 6-foot-10 sophomore has also had to play more minutes lately with Maryland lacking depth at forward since the Mitchell twins transferred away last month.

Vernon Carey - Duke ($8,100 DK / $7,700 FD)

We’ll address this right away: Vernon Carey has the potential to be the highest-scoring player on tonight’s slate but he’s only a tournament play right now for a number of different reasons. For starters, he’s still being priced like he regularly puts up 35 DK points, but that’s only happened twice in the last six games and he has an ugly 20-point floor in DFS. Plus, his playing time has been very inconsistent lately as he’s been in foul trouble and Coach K sometimes opts to go with smaller lineups in his stead. Still, we can’t ignore what Carey did the last time vs. Miami earlier this month when he had 41 DK points with his 24 points scored and nine rebounds. A duplicate (or better) of that performance is certainly on the table again tonight because the ‘Canes have a bad frontcourt that does not rebound well. Limit your exposure to GPP lineups, though, because of his aforementioned low DFS floor.

Nick Richards - Kentucky ($7,500 DK / $6,700 FD)

Richards had been pretty inconsistent to begin the year, but he’s been a lot more trustworthy lately with an increased offensive role in conference play. In Kentucky’s five SEC games thus far, the 6-foot-11 junior leads the team in usage rate (26%) and shots share (25%) and is by far the best rebounder on the team, averaging 9.2 boards per game over this recent five-game span against SEC competition. He’s put up 30 or more DK points in four of five conference games and, ironically, the only game when he had less was against Georgia a couple weeks ago. In that game, Richards battled foul trouble and only played 25 minutes, but he was a beast when he was on the court as he had 17 points and seven rebounds with a team-high 28% usage rate. The fouls are certainly a worry again tonight, but Richards has shown he is a nightly double-double threat who can block shots with the best of them, as he’s racked up 11 blocked shots in the last three games. The price discount on FD is definitely attractive here, but he’s a GPP play with tons of upside tonight considering the foul risk.

Brendan Bailey - Marquette ($5,600 DK / $5,700 FD)

This Marquette-St. John’s matchup is definitely one we want to target for DFS tonight because both teams play at extremely fast paces, and this game has the highest total on the slate. With both offenses playing quickly, there will be a bunch of rebounds to be had, and why not look at one of the best rebounders in the game. Bailey has grabbed seven or more boards in five of the last seven games, and he has legit potential to have double-digit boards tonight. St. John’s consistently allows opposing bigs to have great rebound performances because of how fast they play on offense while being the worst rebounding team in the Big East so far. Bailey has also been playing more minutes lately with Marquette dealing with some injuries to their frontcourt, and his smaller frame allows them to play small as opposed to giving the 6-foot-9 Theo John more run.

Jack White - Duke ($4,400 DK / $5,200 FD)

It’s been tough to trust White as a value play for much of this season, but that’s changed lately with Duke playing him more in Wendell Moore’s absence. White has played 22 or more minutes off the bench in three straight games with Moore out, and he’s averaging 22.7 DK points over this span. The senior doesn’t offer much offensively, but he has seven steals and four blocks in the last three games and grabbed at least five rebounds each time as well. We mentioned earlier how Coach K is sometimes playing Vernon Carey less lately, and White has been the beneficiary of that as his slightly smaller build allows the team to play smaller lineups with White at center. Like Goldwire, White has seen his price increase on FD now but he’s a definite value on DK with this sub-5k price tag.

Donta Scott - Maryland ($4,400 DK / $3,800 FD)

We mentioned earlier how Maryland does not have much depth in their frontcourt, and it’s resulted in Donta Scott playing a lot more and being a consistent value play. The freshman has now started seven straight games since the Mitchell twins transferred away from the program and he’s averaging 27.5 minutes over the last four conference outings. Scott is also averaging 16.5 DK points over the last six games and he’s doing a little bit of everything in the extended playing time as one of the better defenders for the Terps. He has also been a much-needed frontcourt presence to take some defensive responsibility away from Jalen Smith. Obviously Scott is a much better value on FD with a sub-4k price tag, but he’s still playable on DK at a cheap price point.
