Top Guards

Markus Howard - Marquette ($8,800 DK / $8,500 FD)

As you can see above, this Marquette-Georgetown matchup is by far the highest-scoring game on today’s slate and the best player from either side is Markus Howard. The Golden Eagles’ point guard is one of the most exciting scorers in the country and he’s been on fire lately. Over the last eight games, Howard is averaging 29.5 points per game while putting up at least 44 DK points in six of those outings. The senior’s DFS value has such a high floor and ceiling because of his top-tier usage and shot volume - his 37% usage rate and 41% shots share this season are both top three marks in all of college basketball. With how many cheap options are on today’s slate, it’s actually pretty easy to pay up for Howard and still have room for more studs. The only risk today, though, is that Howard tends to play a little worse on the road than at home - as he’s averaging 14 fewer DK points in road games this season.

Myles Powell - Seton Hall ($8,000 FD Only)

Similar to Markus Howard, the “other” Big East playmaker is also one of the top expensive guards today because of his extremely high usage and shot volume. If you’re playing on FanDuel, it’s probably a good idea to fit in Myles Powell as he dominates the DFS production for a Seton Hall team that will be in a fast-paced matchup with St. John’s. Since missing two games with a concussion in December, Powell has put up 40 or more FD points in four of his five games back while averaging a stat-stuffing line of 23.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, three assists and 2.8 steals per game. Like Howard, the Pirates’ senior point guard has a consistently high DFS floor and ceiling because of his 35% usage rate and 41% shots share - both marks are top ten in the country. If you need to choose between the two on FD, the case can certainly be made that Powell is the better play over Howard because of the price discount and home/road splits mentioned above for Howard.

Devon Dotson & Isaiah Moss - Kansas

One of the key injury situations to monitor today lies within the Kansas backcourt. Starting point guard Devon Dotson missed the Jayhawks’ last game on Tuesday with a hip pointer and he’s still a game-time decision heading into today’s tilt. The sophomore reportedly went through an individual workout on Wednesday and “looked really good,” according to KU coach Bill Self - but it remains to be seen whether or not he ends up playing. If Dotson ($8,000 DK / $7,500 FD) does play and start per usual, we definitely need to consider him in DFS because he is the offensive catalyst for Kansas and he likely wouldn’t suit up if he and the coaching staff didn’t expect him to play a full allotment of minutes. Still, assume some risk with Dotson because of the chance of re-injury. If Dotson sits a second straight game, though, Isaiah Moss becomes a huge value on this slate. Moss ($4,400 DK / $4,000 FD) entered the Jayhawks’ starting rotation last game with Dotson out and he responded with a massive performance - 20 points scored and 29.5 DK points in 38 minutes of action. If he winds up starting in Dotson’s place yet again, we should expect 20 or more DFS points from him with the uptick in usage and shot volume - and that makes him a near-lock at his price tags on both sites.

James Bouknight - Connecticut ($4,300 FD Only)

If you’re playing on FD today, Bouknight is one of the better value plays on that site as his current salary does not reflect what his new role is for UConn. With Tyler Polley out for the season with a torn ACL, Bouknight will have a much bigger offensive role for the Huskies moving forward - and we got a glimpse of that last game. The freshman stepped into the starting rotation last Sunday with Polley out and he put up 27.7 FD points in 33 minutes played and was Connecticut’s second-leading scorer in the game. Bouknight had been operating as UConn’s sixth-man scorer off the bench this year, but he’s now found himself with an increase in usage and shot volume while getting more playing time as a starter. Eventually his price tag will rise above 5k if he keeps this type of production up, and now is the time to buy low on him as an elite value play today.

Andrew Platek - North Carolina ($4,100 DK Only)

At this point, it’s no secret how banged-up the Tar Heels are with a ton of injuries in their backcourt and not enough scholarship players to go around. Andrew Platek, though, is benefiting from the increase in playing time and he’s a very solid value play today on DraftKings. First off, let’s go through the UNC injury situation right now. Cole Anthony is still working his way back from a knee injury and is still a week or so away; Brandon Robinson is doubtful to play after he was involved in a car accident last Saturday; Jeremiah Francis sat out the last game with knee soreness and he’s a question mark to play today; and Anthony Harris is out for the year with a torn ACL. Even with Robinson playing last game, Platek still played 39 minutes and put up 30.5 DK points with his sold stat line of eight points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Platek recently returned from an ankle sprain himself, but the opportunity for more playing time and offensive role is now there for the junior - and he’s a very good value play simply by default today.

Ques Glover - Florida ($3,800 DK / $3,600 FD)

Another key injury affecting today’s slate involves the Florida point guard position. Regular starter Andrew Nembhard is in real jeopardy of missing this game as he deals with the flu - he didn’t practice on Thursday or Friday of this week and coach Mike White said the team will be ready to play without him. If Nembhard ends up sitting today, this opens up a ton of value among the Florida guards and Ques Glover is the likeliest candidate to start. Over the last five games, Glover has been the main backup point guard to Nembhard and no other Gators have played the point position. Tre Mann ($4,000 DK / $3,800 FD) is also a candidate to start, but he’s not as much of a ball-handler as Glover and he plays more of the “2” and “3” positions in the Florida offense. During conference play, Glover is seeing the second-highest shots share and third-highest usage rate when he’s on the court - which has been 15-20 minutes per game in that reserve role. He would be an elite value play if he ends up starting for Nembhard.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • Tyler Bey - Colorado ($8,400 DK / $7,900 FD)

  • Mac McClung - Georgetown ($7,600 DK / $6,400 FD)

  • Jared Butler - Baylor ($7,200 DK / $6,600 FD)

  • Trent Forrest - Florida State ($6,600 DK / $6,700 FD)

  • Terrell Allen - Georgetown ($5,400 DK / $5,500 FD)

  • Leaky Black - North Carolina ($5,000 DK Only)

Top Forwards

Omer Yurtseven - Georgetown ($8,700 DK / $7,000 FD)

We mentioned earlier how fast-paced and high-scoring this Marquette-Georgetown game will be - and why not target the best rebounder on either team with plenty of rebounds to go around. Yurtseven, the Hoyas’ 7-foot senior center, has a size advantage over the relatively smaller Marquette frontcourt and he’s averaging 10.1 rebounds over the last ten games with double-digit boards in five of the last eight. Yurtseven is coming off a big performance against Creighton on Wednesday when he had 20 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and 48 DK points. Although we can’t expect a repeat outing, the ceiling is very high for the Georgetown big man when he’s dominating the boards and being a force in the defensive paint. The price is obviously expensive on DK, but take note of the price differential on FD as he’s a better play on that site with the $1,700 discount. It’s also worth noting that Yurtseven is averaging 37 DK points at home this season and 30 DK points on the road - putting him in a better spot today.

Kaleb Wesson - Ohio State ($8,100 DK / $7,400 FD)

While there aren’t many high-priced forwards worth paying up for on this slate, Kaleb Wesson is definitely on the short list. Penn State is one of the worst rebounding teams in the Big Ten thus far and they’ve allowed some massive games to opposing big men during conference play - including 26 points & 14 rebounds to Minnesota’s Daniel Oturu, 34 & 12 to Iowa’s Luka Garza, 24 & 13 to Wisconsin’s Micah Potter and 12 & 11 to Maryland’s Jalen Smith. Plus, Wesson himself put up 28 points, 10 rebounds and a whopping 51 DK points against the Nittany Lions when these teams faced off earlier in the year. This is setting up to be a huge performance from Wesson, who is seeing a 30% usage rate and 27% shots share during Big Ten play, and is coming off a big outing against Nebraska on Tuesday when he had 13 points, 14 boards and 40.5 DK points.

Garrison Brooks & Armando Bacot - North Carolina (DK Only)

If you’re playing on DK today, it might be smart to get one of the UNC bigs into your lineup. With the Tar Heels dealing with so many injuries in their backcourt (see above), it’s resulted in more usage and offensive role for both Garrison Brooks and Armando Bacot down low. Brooks ($8,200 DK) has four straight double-doubles and has taken double-digit shots in seven straight. The junior is a better cash game play today because of his high DFS floor - but limited ceiling - with at least 31 DK points in six of the last seven games but only once putting up more than 38 DK points in that span. Meanwhile, Bacot ($6,900 DK) is coming off two impressive games of 32 and 34 DK points in the last two, respectively. However, the freshman is more of a GPP play today because his DFS floor is very low with 20 or less DK points in five of the last 10 games. Still, Bacot leads the Heels in usage rate and shots share during conference play and he has the upside to drop a 50-burger in any given game. Both Bacot and Brooks will have an advantage in the paint today against an undersized Pittsburgh frontcourt that does rebound particularly well.

Kamaka Hepa - Texas ($4,100 DK / $3,600 FD)

Don’t mind us, we’re just waiting patiently for the DFS sites to price Kamaka Hepa appropriately. Until they do, though, he’s still an elite value play at these salaries on both sites. The sophomore power forward played very sparingly in the early part of this season, but Hepa has now started five straight games and logged 20-30 minutes in each outing. He’s basically taken over the role previously held by Gerald Liddell, who is either dealing with an injury or simply being phased out of the rotation lately. Either way, it’s Hepa who is playing big minutes during conference play right now and he’s way too cheap for his production. In these five starts, he’s averaging 19.5 DK points - which is a huge bargain at around 5x value at these prices.

Seth Lundy - Penn State ($4,000 DK / $3,600 FD)

Penn State shuffled its starting rotation around for the first time all season on Wednesday, and it resulted in Lundy seeing significantly more playing time. The freshman Lundy got the start for Myles Dread and he promptly put up 26 DK points in 26 minutes with 15 points scored, five rebounds, two assists and three made three-pointers. Meanwhile, Dread only played 11 minutes off the bench despite starting the previous 16 games for Penn State. Normally we wouldn’t put too much stock into a bench player getting a one-off start - but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. PSU coach Pat Chambers said that Lundy “earned” another start after his performance last game - and if we take him at his word then Lundy looks like one of the best value plays on this slate with the increase in playing time and offensive role.
