Top Guards

Markus Howard - Marquette ($8,700 DK / $8,000 FD)

If you’ve played CBB DFS or followed college basketball at all in the past year-and-a-half, you know about Markus Howard. He’s one of the best players in the country as an exciting score-first point guard who can literally drop 30+ points on any given night. Howard is averaging 40 DK points and 27.7 actual points over the last ten games and his DFS floor and ceiling are so high because of his extremely high usage in the Marquette offense. The senior’s 38% usage rate and 41% shots share are both top three marks in the whole country and lead the team by a wide margin. No matter the tempo of a game or how badly the Golden Eagles are winning or losing, Howard will consistently get his shots up and is a near-lock to put up 30 or more DK points. His ceiling, though, is what makes him hard to fade in any format because he’s already he can put up 40-60 DK points with ease when he’s making his shots.

John Petty & Kira Lewis - Alabama ($8,200 DK / $7,200 FD)

One of the fastest-paced games on tonight’s slate is this Auburn-Alabama game and we definitely want some shares of either team in our lineups. For the Crimson Tide, they are led by John Petty and Kira Lewis at the guard position and both are squarely in play in all formats. Petty ($8,200 DK / $7,200 FD) has been remarkably consistent in DFS recently with at least 32 DK points in six straight games as he stuffs the stat sheet in multiple categories despite not seeing a large usage or shots share in conference play. Meanwhile, Lewis ($8,000 DK / $7,000 FD) has also been very safe recently with at least 27 DK points in nine straight while also racking up multiple stats from the point guard position. Both Petty and Lewis play a large share of minutes in Alabama’s rotation and they will be doing a ton tonight if the Crimson Tide want to upset Auburn in this exciting matchup.

Mitch Ballock - Creighton ($6,900 DK / $6,000 FD)

This Georgetown-Creighton matchup is one of the fastest-paced games on tonight’s slate and we definitely want exposure to both sides as it should be a back-and-forth, high-scoring contest. The Bluejays are largely led by their guards, but Ty-Shon Alexander and Marcus Zegarowski are a little too overpriced right now as they haven’t returned enough value lately. Ballock, though, is the cheaper of the three on both sites and he has a lot of upside tonight. Georgetown’s defense allows a ton of opposing points via the three-pointer and Ballock is Creighton’s best perimeter threat this season. The junior is shooting 46% from three overall this year and is draining 48% of his three’s during conference play. When Ballock gets hot from deep, we’ve seen him put up some monster DFS performances - like last game vs. Xavier when he went 5-for-9 from three and had 35 DK points.

Chris Smith - UCLA ($6,100 DK Only)

If you’re playing on DK tonight, it might be smart to at least get some exposure to the “late-game hammer” with the Stanford-UCLA matchup tipping at 10 pm ET. Much like the San Diego State-Fresno State game last night, having a player in these late games is underrated because it will allow you to shoot up leaderboards at the end of the night when most lineups will be left without anyone in action. The best option on both teams for their prices is the Bruins’ Chris Smith. Over three conference games, Smith leads UCLA in usage rate (35%), shots share (34%) and assist rate (31%) and he’s one of the best rebounders in the Pac-12. At 6-foot-9, the junior should have a big advantage on the boards tonight against a Stanford frontcourt that is one of the worst rebounding units in the conference. Smith is averaging 18.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 35.9 DK points over the last three games as he’s become a focal point on both ends for the Bruins.

Dexter Dennis - Wichita State ($4,600 DK / $4,600 FD)

Admittedly, there aren’t many elite value options on tonight’s slate - but Dennis provides a decent cash floor right now at sub-5k on both sites. Dennis started the first six games of the season, was relegated to the bench for the next three games and then sat for three games due to personal reasons. However, Dennis is back with the team and he’s been an important part of the rotation over the last two games. During those two conference games, the sophomore wing actually leads Wichita State in shots share (28%) and is second in usage rate (23.4%) despite coming off the bench. He put up 21 and 27 DK points in those two outings while playing 26 and 30 minutes as a reserve, respectively. Even at 6-foot-5, Dennis has been the team’s best rebounder over the last two games - which keeps his DFS value relatively safe even at these prices.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • Markell Johnson - NC State ($8,400 DK Only)

  • Mac McClung - Georgetown ($7,600 DK / $6,900 FD)

  • Samir Doughty - Auburn ($7,300 DK / $6,400 FD)

  • Herbert Jones - Alabama ($6,000 DK / $6,400 FD)

  • Jamorko Pickett - Georgetown ($5,800 DK / $5,800 FD)

  • Mark Vital - Baylor ($5,500 DK / $6,100 FD)

Top Forwards

Daniel Oturu - Minnesota ($9,300 DK / $8,800 FD)

The price king on both sites tonight is obviously very expensive, but he’s been worth it lately as a consistent double-double machine. Over the last ten games, Oturu is averaging 21.9 points, 12.6 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 45 DK points - and he’s often outperforming those averages with a recent string of three straight games of 50-plus DFS points. During conference play, the 6-foot-10 sophomore center leads Minnesota in usage rate (29%) and shots share (30%) while being one of the best pure rebounders in the Big Ten. He should have no problem dominating tonight as Penn State is a terrible rebounding team during conference action and don’t have anyone who can contain Oturu in the paint. PSU’s center Mike Watkins seems to always be in foul trouble and that bodes very well for Oturu, who can draw fouls at a high rate down low.

John Mooney - Notre Dame ($8,300 FD Only)

If you’re playing on FD tonight, Mooney might be the safest expensive forward on the slate as another near-lock for a double-double in a favorable matchup. The senior big man has logged double-digit points and rebounds in ten straight games and is averaging 19 points and 15.7 rebounds over the last three outings. He’s arguably the best pure rebounder in the ACC and he will have a big leg-up tonight with Georgia Tech being pretty bad on the defensive boards and no one who can realistically hang with Mooney in the paint. During conference play, Mooney leads Notre Dame in usage rate and shots share and he’s put up 45 or more FD points in three of the last four games. It doesn’t get much safer than Mooney if you’re paying up at forward tonight.

DJ Funderburk - NC State ($5,600 DK Only)

Unfortunately this fast-paced matchup between NC State and Miami is available only on DK tonight, but we should get some exposure to the game if you’re playing on the site. One affordable avenue to both teams is Funderburk on the Wolfpack side. The 6-foot-10 junior big is the best rebounder for NC State and he should have a big advantage on the boards against Miami. The ‘Canes are one of the worst rebounding teams in the country - let alone the ACC - and they’ve allowed plenty of opposing big men to rack up a ton of rebounds this season. Funderburk should be the latest to grab his fair share of boards tonight - and he’s actually seen a bigger role in the Wolfpack offense during conference play. In five ACC games, he’s second in usage rate and shots share behind C.J. Bryce and he’s coming off back-to-back games of 28 DK points with this increased usage.

Uros Plavsic - Tennessee ($3,000 DK / $3,000 FD)

It’s been a while since we had a near-lock in CBB DFS, but Plavsic might be just that this evening. The 7-foot Arizona State transfer finally received his eligibility to play for Tennessee this season after sitting out the first part of the year - and he should immediately enter into the rotation tonight. Plavsic gives Tennessee some much-needed size and rebounding - things that they’ve lacked for much of the season until now. It’s unclear how many minutes he’ll see in his first game with the Vols, but it’s certainly encouraging that Plavsic has been practicing all season with the team and his conditioning should have him ready to go right away. At his min price on both sites, he doesn’t need to do much to return value - and the upside for 15-20 DFS points is a real possibility if he’s getting the playing time.
